The two most famous teams in superhero comic books are undeniably DC’s Justice League and Marvel’s Avengers. But DC just changed the Justice League in a major way that has certainly left the Avengers in the dust. While the Justice League spent the last year fractured and disbanded, they’ve now come together stronger than ever at the end of 2024 to prove that they’re the best team in comics in 2025.
The Justice League has always been one of DC’s greatest teams, so it was surprising when DC launched its “Death of the Justice League” storyline before and after the events of Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths by Joshua Williamson and Daniel Sampere. A corrupted version of Pariah captured the Justice League and used them to fuel his dark army as he tried to end the Multiverse. After this event, the Justice League decided to disband, as the Titans held their own and saved the world while the League was gone.
For several months, the Justice League didn’t exist, and the Titans looked over Earth and protected the innocent.
The Justice League Officially Returned in 2024 Thanks to Absolute Power
And They Came Back Bigger and Stronger Than Ever
The Titans finally got the respect and attention that they truly deserve given their long DC history. This moment of peace and prosperity didn’t last though, as dark forces were at work behind the scenes. Seeing the Justice League gone, Amanda Waller decided to make her move to wipe out all superheroes, as seen in the shocking Absolute Power event by Mark Waid and Dan Mora.
Absolute Power showed why the world needs the Justice League. The Titans were great, but they weren’t nearly as large as the Justice League and didn’t have nearly as many resources. While Titans Tower is amazing, it’s no Justice League Watchtower. Because the Justice League was disbanded and the superhero community so fractured, there wasn’t anyone capable of standing up against Amanda Waller’s initial attack. With her army of Amazos, she very nearly wiped out every superhero on Earth. The hero community banded together to defeat her, which led to the formation of the most powerful Justice League ever at the end of 2024.

Batman and Superman Are Great, But I Think the Justice League Has a Much Better Tag Team
DC Comics is officially giving the Dark Knight and Man of Steel a run for their money by teaming up two of my absolute favorite heroines.
After Amanda Waller’s defeat, the Trinity decided that the Justice League had to become something more. The team had to be stronger and more unified than ever, so that what happened during Absolute Power could never happen again. And so Justice League Unlimited was formed: the biggest, most expansive version of the iconic team that fans have ever seen. Typically, the Justice League is only made up of a few members, usually six to eight, with Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman almost always being on the team. This Justice League Unlimited, though, isn’t just a group of hand-picked heroes – it’s every hero in the DC Universe.
Justice League Unlimited Made the Iconic Team Bigger Than Ever in 2024
Every Hero Is Invited to the New Watchtower
With a new team name comes a new base as well. Justice League Unlimited isn’t just a cool-sounding name, it’s the title of the biggest superhero army on Earth. The new Justice League Watchtower has been rebuilt as a literal floating city in space. It can house hundreds, if not thousands, of superheroes, each with their own job and reason for being onboard. The Justice League is more effective than ever, as it now has specialized teams to respond to specific threats. If there’s a magical villain on the loose, then there’s no doubt that Dr. Fate, Zatanna, Constantine, and Madame Xanadu will be dispatched immediately.
While the Justice League used to be an exclusive team, it’s now the home to the heroes of Earth, big or small.
This new operation also grants every hero on Earth access to Justice League technology. One of the biggest issues that the Titans faced was that they simply didn’t have as many resources as the Justice League. Now, every hero has access to the Justice League’s resources. They can use the teleporters, live on the station, take part in training, or read from the massive Justice League database. It’s a huge benefit to every hero, and it makes them all stronger as a whole. While the Justice League used to be an exclusive team, it’s now the home to the heroes of Earth, big or small.
Justice League Unlimited Is a New Era of Heroism in DC Comics
And the Story Continues in 2025
The Justice League has had tons of incarnations over the years, including Justice League International, Justice League Task Force, and many others. But none of them has been as all-encompassing as Justice League Unlimited. This new version of the team is bigger and better than ever, and it’s hard to see how Marvel’s Avengers could possibly compare. Thanks to this massive new team, it’s difficult to imagine that any villain on Earth will be able to pose a threat, especially after the death of Darkseid. As it stands, 2025 is continuing a brand-new era for the Justice League, and it looks like it’s going to be one of their best.
