Jason Momoa becomes Lobo in new DC Universe art after his casting, and it shows just how perfect he is for the character. Momoa has become famous in the superhero genre for playing Aquaman in two solo movies and a couple of other projects. Despite leading the highest-grossing DC movie of all time, Aquaman, Momoa will not return as Arthur Curry in James Gunn’s DC Universe. Instead, it has been announced that Jason Momoa will play Lobo in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. After years of comments, Momoa finally plays his DC dream role.

On Instagram, artist @dope_edits_de shared a peek at what Jason Momoa’s Lobo could look like in comics-accurate DCU fan art.

The art has Momoa’s Lobo sitting on a throne. The actor’s version of the DC bounty hunter has the same chains, red eyes, white skin, and leather jacket that Lobo has become known for in the comics. Fans might not have to wait long for an official look at Momoa’s Lobo, as Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will enter production on January 13th. As Momoa returns to the franchise in the upcoming DCU movie, Lobo set photos could emerge.

What Jason Momoa’s Lobo Casting In The DCU Means

James Gunn Previously Made An Important Comment

Jason Momoa never kept it a secret that he would love to play Lobo, his favorite comic book character. He had even thought that was the role Zack Snyder cast him to play before learning he was up for Aquaman. When James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC, rumors that Momoa would leave Aquaman behind to play Lobo in the new DC Universe started to emerge. Gunn stated at the time that Momoa would only play one character in the DCU, which has now been revealed to be Lobo.

The DCU’s Violent New Release Has Me Excited To See What Its R-Rated Movies Will Be Like

James Gunn’s new DC Universe has only just started, but the latest violent entry in the franchise shows the potential for DC’s planned R-rated movies.

As such, a new actor will be cast as Aquaman, while Momoa’s Lobo could go on to make more appearances after debuting in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Momoa’s DCU Lobo casting likely means that DC Studios has big plans ahead for the Czarnian. Lobo would be a perfect candidate for one of the R-rated movies Gunn has revealed are in the works for the DCU. Given how Momoa is a bankable star, having led the highest-grossing DC movie of all time, it seems his Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow debut will only be the first of many Lobo appearances.

Our Take On Jason Momoa’s Lobo Casting

The DCU Has Made An Exciting Choice

While I liked Momoa’s different take on Aquaman, I always thought that there were better paths for the actor and the character. Momoa playing Lobo, a much more violent and irreverent character, is more up his alley than Aquaman, with the bonus that it is his DC dream role. As for Aquaman, the DCU can now cast a more traditional Arthur Curry and focus on how the character can be regal and a fierce leader at the same time. I’m excited about Jason Momoa’s Lobo future, and an R-rated solo movie in the DCU feels within reach.

DC Universe

The DC Universe is one of the biggest comic book franchises and often competes with Marvel. DC Comics started as National Allied Publications, founded by Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson in 1935. Since then, the franchise has exploded with thousands of comic books, movies, TV shows, and video games. 2013 marked the beginning of the most recent iteration of the superheroes, with Zack Snyder introducing Henry Cavill as Superman. After several movies with mixed reviews, DC underwent a soft reboot under the helm of James Gunn and Peter Safran.
