The first season of Creature Commandos has come to an end, marking the first completed project in James Gunn’s new DCU. As audiences eagerly await the release of Superman in July, the Max animated series is the best indicator of what they should expect to see as the DC Universe continues to expand. The Creature Commandos are bound to be a big part of those plans, as Gunn builds up the first chapter of his universe, “Gods and Monsters.”
The season finale of Creature Commandos leaves Task Force M on a high note, despite the tragic death that underpinned the final episode. After their successful mission to Pokolistan, the team is given a new wing of Belle Reve Prison. The Bride seems to be the new leader of the Creature Commandos, who have been outfitted with new members who will presumably play bigger roles in Season 2. Who are the members of the new Task Force M and what do we know about them?

The Bride Leads the New Creature Commandos
Voiced by Indira Varma
At the end of Creature Commandos Season 1, the Bride is the only member of Task Force M to recognize what is truly going on. After Nina Mazursky’s death, the Bride pieces together the truth about Princess Ilana Rostovic of Pokolistan, whom she realizes really does want to destroy the world. She murders the princess in her office, preventing World War III and saving the world. As a reward, the Bride is placed in charge of the new Creature Commandos, who now occupy a remodeled wing of Belle Reve Prison.
Although not explicitly stated, the Bride seems to replace Rick Flag as the commander of Task Force M, with the ARGUS agent returning to other missions. As one of the most distant members of the team, the Bride gradually transformed into a team player, thanks in no small part to Nina’s influence. Now, the Bride of Frankenstein functions as the new leader of the Creature Commandos, carrying on Nina’s legacy with every mission.

Weasel Returns For More Adventures
Voiced By Sean Gunn
Weasel is another original Creature Commando returning for the new iteration of the team. Weasel began his secret agent career as a member of Task Force X, a.k.a. the Suicide Squad, during Operation Starfish. While he only barely survived the events of his first mission, Weasel turned out to be an important member of Task Force M on their mission to Pokolistan. He prevented Nina Mazursky from killing the princess, though this later proved to be a mistake.
It will be interesting to see how the dynamic between Weasel and the rest of the Creature Commandos plays out in future seasons. Doctor Phosphorus and the Bride both expressed disdain for the praise that Weasel received after saving the princess, which was likely only heightened when it was revealed that she was every bit the villain they feared she was. Weasel is also indirectly responsible for getting Nina killed in the season finale, perhaps putting him on the Bride’s bad side.

Nosferata Joins the Team
Nosferata Makes a Cameo Earlier In Creature Commandos
One of the newest members of Task Force M is Nosferata. A winged humanoid creature resembling a bat, Nosferatus was seen as an inmate at Belle Reve Prison in earlier episodes of Creature Commandos. In the season finale, she is seen playing ping pong with Doctor Phosphorus in the revamped prison wing dedicated to the Creature Commandos, implying that she is one of their newest members.

In DC Comics, Nosferata is a vampire who often serves as an enemy of Superboy. She seeks to take over the Wild Land territories but is foiled by the hero’s intervention, making an enemy for life. Little is known about Nosferata in the DCU, though her backstory will likely be explored when she returns in Season 2 of Creature Commandos. Her presence could allow the DCU to introduce the world of vampires from the comics.

Doctor Phosphorus Remains a Central Member of Task Force M
Voiced By Alan Tudyk
Doctor Phosphorus is an original member of Task Force M who returns as part of the Bride’s new team at the end of the season. Audiences learned more about Doctor Phosphorus in Creature Commandos Season 1, including how he came to be the flaming green skeleton that he is today. Once the brilliant scientist Alexander Sartorius, the Creature Commando was transformed after falling in with the wrong people in Gotham City, leading him to become the monster he is today.
Doctor Phosphorus proves to be somewhat of a wild card in the Creature Commandos’ first mission. Although he is more than willing to kill whomever Amanda Waller orders him to, Phosphorus also doesn’t play well with others, making him a liability to the team. His individuality could make him a challenge for the Bride in future missions, which will be interesting for audiences to see play out in the next seasons of Creature Commandos.

Khalis Is a New Member of the Creature Commandos
Khalis Is Only Briefly Seen In the Finale
Khalis is another new member of the Creature Commandos seen in the season finale as part of the Bride’s new team. The DC character is only seen very briefly in the final scene of the episode, casually knitting in an armchair. Khalis is only seen from a distance, leaving certain elements of the character’s design a mystery.

Creature Commandos Secretly Repeats the Arrowverse’s Biggest Mistake (But Backwards)
For years, DC fans lamented filler episodes in the Arrowverse TV shows on The CW, but Creature Commandos may not tell a complete enough story.
Khalis is the identity of multiple characters in DC Comics. The version seen in Creature Commandos is most likely the second Khalis, a revived mummy who serves as a member of Task Force M alongside the likes of Nina Mazursky and Frankenstein in the comics. Viewers can tell a lot about Khalis in his few seconds of screen time in the finale. His penchant for knitting gives Khalis a surprising hobby that offers a few hints about what his personality will be like when he gets more attention in Creature Commandos Season 2.

G.I. Robot is an original member of Task Force M who makes a surprise return in the last scene of the finale. An artificial soldier created with the sole purpose of killing Nazis, G.I. Robot served during World War II as a member of Easy Company. Decades later, as a part of the Creature Commandos, G.I. laid down hislife-fightingg Circe and her minions, giving his teammates a fighting chance. At the end of the battle, Circe ripped G.I. Robot apart, seemingly killing him–but not permanently.
G.I. Robot returns in a new form in the Creature Commandos finale. Rebuilt off-screen, G.I. is now outfitted with heavy-plated armor that makes him multiple times his original size. His larger exterior likely houses many more weapons, which will certainly come in handy on his future missions with Task Force M. It will be interesting to see what new gadgets and weaponry G.I. brings to the table in his new form in Creature Commandos Season 2 and beyond.

King Shark Finally Joins the Team
Voiced By Diedrich Bader
The final member of the Bride’s new team in Creature Commandos is one whom audiences will surely recognize. King Shark is a giant shark-like creature who was first introduced in 2021’s The Suicide Squad as a part of Task Force X. The lovably idiotic shark was one of the few members of the Suicide Squad to survive Project Starfish and now joins a new squadron of monstrous antiheroes.
King Shark was voiced by Sylvester Stallone in The Suicide Squad, but voice actor Diedrich Bader takes over the role in Creature Commandos. It is unclear whether or not this recast is intended to be permanent. Regardless of who voices the character moving forward, fans will be overjoyed to see one of their favorite characters from The Suicide Squad return for more missions in future seasons of Creature Commandos.
