When “Joker: Folie à Deux,” aka “Joker 2,” was first announced, many fans were excited to see what director Todd Phillips had in mind for his follow-up to the original 2019 Academy Award-winning take on the infamous Batman villain. For months, the internet was set ablaze by the rumors of a musical, including the addition of Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn. After years of waiting, “Joker 2” finally emerged in the world on October 4, 2024.

The DC-based sequel was instantly slammed online, with rumors of people walking out of the theater. Not only did Phillips’ follow-up not strike a chord with fans, but it bombed with critics, too, with plenty of horrible reviews.

“Joker 2” currently has a 31% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes, including a 30% audience rating. The film had a reported budget of $206.4 million and only made $200 million back.

Naturally, the lack of success of “Joker 2” has been highlighted by the one place that celebrates box office and critical bombs: the Razzies.

The Razzies being the antithesis to the Academy Awards. It also happens every year but has categories like Worst Picture and Worst Director as opposed to the Best Director and Best Picture.

The Razzies has officially released this year’s nominations, and “Joker 2” is practically mentioned in every category. Per a post from CBR and confirmations by The Hollywood Reporter, the sequel has been nominated for:

“Worst Picture, Worst Actor, Worst Actress, Worst Director, Worst Screen Combo, Worst Prequel/Remake/Rip-Off/Sequel, and Worst Screenplay.”

Of the nine categories provided, “Joker 2” has been nominated for seven. Though the film might not have been well-received by fans and critics, it might win its weight in gold via the Razzies.

“Joker 2” will find out its fate when the Razzies announces the winners on March 1 via a video press release, the day before the Academy Awards take place.

James Gunn has officially taken over the DC Universe and has rolled out the first of many stories that will be included in his overall universe. “Creature Commandos” premiered on Max, and has already been renewed for a second season.

Though Phillips wowed audiences with his first iteration of The Joker, he might not be able to flex his DC prowess in Gunn’s universe moving forward. It’s tragic considering how thought-provoking the first film was.
