After almost a year, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has released its last update. The eighth episode of its fourth and final season is titled “Balance” and brings the game’s narrative to a close with players returning to the game’s medieval elseworld, where they will launch a final assault on Brainiac’s citadel fortress. The update also finally introduces an offline mode, which allows access to the campaign and all post-launch seasonal content without an internet connection. Fans will still be able to access the game’s online content for the foreseeable future.
The life of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has certainly not been without controversy, with poor critical reception, immediate technical issues, and sales disappointing enough that it led to the firing of almost 100 employees. Its position as the canonical successor to the Batman: Arkham games also caused some fans to object to the way Batman (and the rest of the Justice League) were killed off. The fact that this was one of Kevin Conroy’s last performances added an extra layer of importance to the character’s portrayal.
As for the story’s climax,
The big twist is that you were never actually killing the Justice League at all. In a final cutscene (rendered in static 2d images and narrated by Harley Quinn), its revealed that the Justice League members that the Suicide Squad had been fighting were clones the entire time. The only member who actually died was Wonder Woman, who receives a memorial statue.
