Warning! Contains Spoilers For DC vs. Vampires: World War V – Darkness and Light #1!
One of the most incredible gadgets in the entire DC Universe is without a doubt the Green Lantern rings. These powerful rings allow the user to create anything they can imagine, powered by their very will. While some have created complex mecha and others have created fantastic beasts, only Guy Gardner revealed the true horrifying extent of their power.
It’s expected for some dark and twisted things to happen when the heroes of the DC world fall to brutal bloodthirsty vampires, but it was still quite shocking to see the full terrifying potential of the Green Lantern rings in DC vs. Vampires: World War V – Darkness and Light #1 by Matthew Rosenberg and Nikola Cizmesija.
Hal Jordan was one of the first heroes to be turned into a vampire, and then Kyle Rayner and John Stewart were killed as well. Guy Gardner seemed to be the only living Green Lantern left, which is especially surprising, considering he was torn in half by Wonder Woman, but this didn’t stop him from being a hero.
Guy Gardner’s Will To Survive Used His Ring To Literally Keep Him Alive
DC vs. Vampires: World War V – Darkness and Light #1 by Matthew Rosenberg, Nikola Cizmesija, Francesco Segala, Daniel Bayliss, Pierluigi Casolino, and Tom Napolitano
When Guy Gardner was torn in half by a vampiric Wonder Woman, it certainly seemed like the end of him. It wouldn’t be the first hero that this Wonder Woman had brutally murdered, but Green Lantern’s run off willpower and Guy’s desire to live was stronger than anything else. Using his Green Lantern ring, Guy Gardner managed to recreate his inner organs, stabilizing his body and preventing himself from dying. Despite the fact his entire digestive system and even his lungs were missing, Guy was perfectly capable of continuing to live.

Green Lantern’s can create literally anything they can think of. This is often limited to just creating constructs like giant mechs or airplanes or something else. Green Lantern’s don’t usually use their powers to modify their own bodies, especially not on the level that Guy Gardner did. While recreating his inner organs, and removing the ones he believes are obsolete, is a pretty impressive feat, he manages to go even further. Because he needs to stay conscious to maintain his constructs, he also performed surgery on his own brain, removing his need to sleep.
Guy Gardner Can Even Perform Brain Surgery on His Own Brain
He Never Has To Sleep Ever Again
Surviving in this new vampire-ruled world is a pretty difficult feat. The majority of humanity has been captured and put into blood farms, with the very small resistance that does exist having to hide. Vampires roam freely and either eat or outright kill anyone they come across. It’s a world where very few have managed to stay alive, whether they have powers or not. Every single Green Lantern shown so far has been either turned or violently killed, but Guy Gardner has managed to defy the odds by using his Lantern ring in a way that is so rarely seen.
If the Lantern Rings can create anything the Lantern can think of, then there’s really no reason it shouldn’t be able to create a functioning pair of lungs or any other organ. As long as the Green Lantern has sufficient knowledge of how the individual parts work, then this is a perfectly valid solution to being torn in half. Guy Gardner has always been one of the more surprising Green Lanterns, and he continues to prove this even in DC’s darkest world. When faced with certain death in a terrifying world, Guy Gardner finds a horrifying way to keep on living.
