Amid constant delays and growing frustration surrounding The Batman Part II, the man who conceptualized DC’s Bat-verse could be prepared to walk from the upcoming sequel. A new report claims director Matt Reeves might leave The Batman sequel if it doesn’t begin production later this year as scheduled.
Per Hollywood scooper Jeff Sneider on The Hot Mic podcast, Reeves could move on from Part II if any more delays beset the second installment in his planned The Batman trilogy. There have been rumors that Reeves or someone close to him has been suffering health problems, causing Part II delays. Though Sneider wouldn’t comment on Reeves’ personal situation, he claimed the helmer would leave his long-gestating project if filming doesn’t begin this year like he planned.

Robert Pattinson might join every franchise before The Batman Part II comes out in theaters.
“I think that situation is still unresolved and that’s why things are still unresolved as far as The Batman,” he said. “I’ll put it this way: I think even though that situation may be unresolved, I would say that if a decision isn’t made by the end of the year – if the movie doesn’t get up and running by the end of the year – I do think [Reeves] will exit. I think it will be a, ‘Hey, we’ve got to move on here.’ It will be very sad. At this point, people are understanding of the circumstances, but there’s some frustration and it’s gonna be, ‘We need to go on this, with or without you soon.'”
Since Part II received its second year-long release delay last December, fans’ worries have intensified regarding the film’s status, wondering if it will ever see the light of day. Speculation of a disagreement between Reeves and DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has been debunked. Other theories have suggested Warner Bros. financial troubles may have a hand in the delays.

Gunn has since claimed that the only reason for Part II‘s latest delay is that Reeves has yet to complete his script for the superhero sequel. He also debunked rumors that Batman actor Robert Pattinson’s busy schedule is a source of the delays. Though Pattinson is filming Christopher Nolan’s fantasy-action thriller, The Odyssey, and is in talks to star in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Messiah, his other commitments aren’t expected to cause further Part II delays.
Part II is slated to come out over five years after the Oscar-nominated The Batman, which became a critical and commercial smash and spawned the award-winning HBO spinoff series, The Penguin. Pattinson will reprise his role as Bruce Wayne in Part II alongside Colin Farrell’s Oz Cobb/Penguin and Barry Keoghan’s Joker. Meanwhile, Zoë Kravitz, Andy Serkis and Jeffrey Wright are all expected to reprise their roles as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Alfred Pennyworth and James Gordon respectively.
Pattinson has shared his frustration regarding Part II‘s delays. However, he insists he’s excited to return for the sequel and teased a more significant role for Keoghan’s Joker after his memorable cameo in the original movie. Meanwhile, Reeves claimed Part II‘s story will be more grounded and realistic as it further explores Batman and the guilt he feels following the first film’s events.
Part II is slated to open in theaters on Oct. 1, 2027.
