Welcome back to Upcoming Comics! Normally I use this space to wax poetic about my thoughts on current comic happenings which catch my interest, but today I want to gush about the new movie Sinners. Not only is it a totally original movie that the director managed to get the rights to from the studio (after 25 years, but still rare and hopefully sets a trend), but it’s also just phenomenal. Genuinely one of the best movies I’ve seen. It’s filled with great performances by the entire cast, is exciting the whole way through, gorgeously shot, and has a soundtrack I can’t stop listening to. It’s not really “scary” despite being labelled horror, but it’s definitely an R-rated movie so any younger readers might need to ask their parents. For everyone else, I can’t recommend it enough.
With that unpaid advertisement out of the way, let’s look at some comics.
Upcoming Comics
Two-Face #6
HARVEY DENT MAKES THE ULTIMATE CHOICE!
One half of Harvey Dent wanted to be a better man living a better life. The other wanted freedom and control for the first time. The body known as Two-Face is up for grabs, court is in session, and a verdict will be rendered. This one will come down to more than a coin toss, and the fallout could be deadly.

Thoughts: I’ll admit I’m not as excited about this title as I was in the beginning, but it’s still a really solid Two-Face story. I just wish more were done with the “Harvey defends criminals in an underground court” premise, but I just thought that was such an original and interesting idea, whereas “Harvey fights with his evil side for control” is a bit more familiar, even if done very well.

Batgirl #7
Spinning out of “Mother,” the first arc’s world-shattering finale, Lady Shiva unveils her true, secret origins to Batgirl for the very first time. Courtesy of special guest artist Isaac Goodhart, don’t miss the definitive history of Lady Shiva.

Thoughts: There are a lot of “new origin” stories popping up recently. I guess it makes sense with the big DC History book coming out soon.

Teen Titans Go! #3
Inspired by way too many sitcoms, when Robin gets caught trying to plan a surprise party for Starfire’s birthday, he invents a new alias—Texas Robin, his identical twin cousin—to explain who the party is for. Costume changes and misunderstandings abound, leading to the reveal that the birthday Robin thought was Starfire’s is actually Silkie’s!
Written By: Ivan Cohen
Art By: Marcelo Di Chiara
Thoughts: Would you believe that last issue was one of our most popular reviews last month? Turns out TTGO has more fans here than I thought.
Batman News Critic: Chip
Poison Ivy #33
An awful tragedy is unfolding, and it appears as though there’s nothing Pamela Isley can do to stop it. Will the verdant villain find a way through, or is her life about to hit an all-time new low?
Written By: G. Willow Wilson
Art By: Marcio Takara
Thoughts: One thing I can always count on this title for is some of the most gorgeous covers around. Jessica Fong does a fantastic job.

Birds of Prey #21
A new villain team, fashioned specifically to take out the Birds of Prey, has emerged in dramatic fashion. And with the Birds deliberately scattered across the globe investigating both real and false leads, they’re more vulnerable than ever. With the strongest of them already fallen, how can any of them survive what’s coming?
Written By: Kelly Thompson
Art By: Sami Basri
Thoughts: Every hero and hero team needs a good “me but evil” villain.

Beyond the Bat
Welcome to Beyond the Bat, where we take a quick look at the rest of DC’s comics coming out this week.
Graphic Novel Watch
Sometimes you need more than floppies. Sometimes you want something that can sit nicely on your shelf that proudly displays your favorite stories. That’s when you turn to graphic novels. Let’s see what bat collections are coming out this week:
Ratings
Most Excited: Two-Face #6– I may be a bit less excited than I was at the beginning, but this is still one of the best bat books being put out right now.
Least Excited: Teen Titans Go! #3– Maybe it is surprisingly popular, but I don’t think I’m the target audience.
Wild Card: Batgirl #7– With its first arc behind it, this title still has a lot of room to grow.
Well that’s it for this week! Let us know in the comments what comics you’re looking forward to.
