Jason Momoa Looks Stunning in New Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom New Image

Jason Momoa is set to return as the King of the Seven Seas in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the long-awaited sequel to the 2018 film directed by James Wan. As the closing movie of the old DCEU franchise, there are many questions being asked about the December release, but it is likely that many of them will go unanswered.

After appearing briefly in Batman v Superman and having a leading role in 2017’s Justice League along with the rest of the franchise’s heroes, in 2018 Momoa finally had the opportunity to shine alone in what became one of the most successful productions from DC and Warner Bros.

A sequel was confirmed almost immediately by the studio, along with a proposed spin-off entitled The Trench. However, it took Wan a long time to develop Aquaman 2, and in that time the spin-off had been ditched and partly swallowed up into the plot of Momoa’s second solo outing. In December, fans will be able to witness Arthur Curry’s new adventure, but first they will be able to learn a little more about the story of the film in a prequel comic that will go on sale on October 31.

In the promotional images of the comic book, which were presented by DC Comics on Instagram, Momoa can be seen wearing a new suit for the upcoming film:

Another image included in the publication unites Aquaman with his half-brother Orm, played by Patrick Wilson. Behind them appears Black Manta, the great villain of this second installment, played by Yahya Abdul Mateen II.

In the first Aquaman movie, the relationship between Arthur and Mera was one of the central pivots of the story. And while Amber Heard’s character will reappear in the sequel, her role seems to be greatly diminished to make way for a new relationship to take center stage. Arthur and half-brother Orm will have to join forces to save Atlantis and everything they love, because Black Manta will not stop until he takes revenge on Aquaman and will destroy everything in his path.

And the importance of the relationship between the half-brothers was made clear by Wan himself, who declared that from the beginning his idea was to have that bond as the great star of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

Here’s the official synopsis for Aquaman 2, coming to theaters on December 20:

“Having failed to defeat Aquaman the first time, Black Manta, still driven by the need to avenge his father’s death, will stop at nothing to take Aquaman down once and for all. This time Black Manta is more formidable than ever before, wielding the power of the mythic Black Trident, which unleashes an ancient and malevolent force. To defeat him, Aquaman will turn to his imprisoned brother Orm, the former King of Atlantis, to forge an unlikely alliance. Together, they must set aside their differences in order to protect their kingdom and save Aquaman’s family, and the world, from irreversible destruction.”
