James Gunn and DC shared a first look at David Corenswet as Superman that depicts the Man of Steel putting on one of his boots as some kind of cataclysmic event or battle is raging in the background.

The official DC account posted, “Get ready. #Superman 7.11.25.”

The image was mocked by numerous potential moviegoers. RenezuoArt wrote, “Good Lord! What is happening out there!?”

MarkRedbeliever wrote, “Why is he slowing putting on his boots when Metropolis is under attack?”

Damintoell questioned, “Is this supposed to look like bad AI?”

Novaartist_ commented, “i thought this was a cosplay.”

Meanwhile_pod posted, “Looks like the materials are far to heavy and bulky, they’re bunching up and folding in some weird places. And with trunks, like why? Especially if it’s that same heavy material. This is definitely my least favorite of the Superman suits.”

Nina Infinity commented, “Why does Superman look like he’s getting ready for a leisurely stroll around the park when there is a giant thing happening in the background? There is no urgency in this pic. At least he’s got the super man curl….”

She added in a follow-up, “I figured out why the new Superman image seems off. Because it’s an effeminate pose. It’s not a good pose for a man that’s supposed to be the strongest man in the universe.”

As noted in the first look image, the James Gunn-directed Superman film will arrive in theaters on July 11, 2025. The film was initially titled Superman: Legacy with DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran informing Variety in June 2023 that the film “focuses on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing.”

Safran added that Superman “is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way. He is kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old-fashioned.”

Back in December 2022, Gunn revealed the film would “be focusing on an earlier part of Superman’s life.”

In March 2023, he detailed that the film centers “around Superman’s heritage – how both his aristocratic Kryptonian parents and his Kansas farmer parents inform who he is and the choices he makes.”

While Gunn notes the film will focus on Superman, it’s also chock full of other members of the Justice League including Nathan Fillion as the Green Lantern Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Isabella Merced as Hawkgirl, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.

Nicholas Hoult will play Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo plays Jimmy Olsen, Wendell Pierce plays Perry White, Pruitt Taylor Vince plays Jonathan Kent, Neva Howell plays Martha Kent, Sean Gunn plays Maxwell Lord, María Gabriela de Faría plays Angela Spica aka the Engineer, Terence Rosemore plays Otis.

Finally, Rachel Brosnahan plays Lois Lane.
