Recent rumors about the casting of Booster Gold in the DCU appear to be true. Xolo Maridueña, who will be a part of the DCU after starring in the film Blue Beetle, seems to have confirmed the casting of an Eternals star.

The Cosmic Circus has reportedly spoken with Maridueña, who “shared his excitement” about Kumail Nanjiani getting cast as Booster Gold. This is not a casting that has been officially announced by DC Studios or Nanjiani, but there have been rumors about it happening. DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn is known for often shutting down inaccurate rumors on social media, though this was one he has stayed silent about so far. With that noted, Nanjiani’s casting is still not officially confirmed, as it’s also possible Maridueña might have been reacting to the unverified rumors.

Fox’s Worst Portrayal of an X-Men Character?

Although Fox’s X-Men franchise delivered some memorable and quality movies, it was far from perfect. The movies varied widely from each entry; some characters were rendered much better than others. Storm is one of the characters Fox’s adaptations failed to adapt properly. She has too little to do, strays too far from her comics character, and adds nothing meaningful to the character to justify these comics departures. Who do you think was the worst X-Men portrayal in Fox’s movies?

Gunn has confirmed that a Booster Gold series is planned for the DCU, but it’s very early in its development stages, making it unclear when the show would possibly arrive. That might suggest that casting information won’t be revealed anytime soon, though there’s a chance Booster Gold could first pop up in another DCU project to first debut the character. Other names that have come up in the rumor mill as candidates for the part include Antony Starr, Chris Pratt, and Glen Powell.

Maridueña could be mistaken about the casting of Booster Gold, though he may potentially be privy to the character’s casting, as he is a part of the DCU. While Maridueña’s Blue Beetle movie was released as a part of the DCEU, Gunn has since confirmed that the actor will reprise his role in the DCU, albeit as a variant. A Blue Beetle animated series with Maridueña is now in development, and it could even potentially feature Booster Gold. Blue Beetle could just as well be involved with the Booster Gold series.

King Spawn: Todd McFarlane Believes Deadpool & Wolverine’s Box Office Success Will Help R-Rated Reboot Get Greenlit

Spawn creator Todd McFarlane explains why Deadpool & Wolverine’s record-breaking opening weekend will help his reboot movie get made.

The Booster Gold series was first announced in January 2023, but it doesn’t appear to have made significant progress with its development since then. As for when Booster Gold will start production, that remains unclear. In May, Gunn took to social media to debunk a rumor that production would start in July 2024. At the time, Gunn said, “Although we’re still working on Booster Gold, production isn’t imminent and that story/posting is completely false.” While production might not be happening soon, Gunn had teased last year that there was a particular actor in mind for the role.

“I think of it as basically the story of a superhero’s imposter syndrome,” Gunn said of the project, per DC. “How do you deal with that? (It’s about) how he tries to use this future technology to be loved by the people of today and what is really at the base of that. It’s a character story that’s going to be a very different type of show, and we’re talking to an actor about it now.”
