Batman and Robin #12 finds the eponymous duo of Caped Crusaders facing off against two of the biggest threats of all time in the forms of both Bane and his cloned daughter, Vengeance. When Damian finally gets Bane alone, he prepares to land a killing blow against his foe, one that is long overdue. In a shocking turn, Damian instead staves off his own strike in favor of showing Bane the mercy that was nowhere to be seen when the villain killed the Batman Family’s most beloved member – Alfred Pennyworth.

Though Alfred served the Waynes for years across numerous iterations of the DC Universe, the most recent version of the character tragically lost his life at the hands of Bane during the events of 2019’s Batman #77 by Tom King, Mikel Janin, and Tony S. Daniel. This came about after he was taken hostage by the villain, who had been leading a months-long campaign of terror against the Dark Knight. Initially, Alfred was meant to be a bargaining chip that would ensure the Batman Family stayed out of Bane’s way. When Damian attempted to intervene, Bane snapped Alfred’s neck right in front of the Boy Wonder, making good on his previous threats without hesitation.
Not all that long after, Bane himself was believed to have been killed during a massive attack on Arkham Asylum, where he was then imprisoned alongside dozens of other iconic Batman villains. Somehow, Bane was able to not only escape with his life but traverse half the globe before ending up in self-imposed exile on Dinosaur Island. There, Bane has tested his mettle against all manner of prehistoric beasts, all while keeping the island free from interlopers who have their sights set on bagging the biggest game Earth has to offer.
Green Lantern Turns an Underrated DC Villain into a Huge Threat
One of DC’s greatest Green Lanterns lends more credibility to some of the world’s most ridiculous supervillains.
After making the journey to Dinosaur Island for themselves, Batman and Robin are met by one of the latter’s longtime allies, Maya, who has helped them traverse the landscape’s harsh terrain. They have also been met with fierce opposition by Bane’s “daughter,” Vengeance. Introduced in 2021’s The Joker #2 in James Tynion IV and Guillem March’s opening story, Vengeance was born from Bane’s DNA as a clone of the iconic antagonist. In her early years, Vengeance worked for the political and corporate rulers of Santa Prisca as an assassin and soldier, duties she left behind after discovering her true lineage.
