James Gunn‘s revamped DC Universe is set to kickstart its run later this year with the release of Creature Commandos. Meanwhile, the theatrical front of the updated franchise will receive its first entry in 2025 in the form of the upcoming Superman movie. Consequently, fans are eager to know more details about Gunn’s plans for the DC Universe. In a recent interaction, the Guardians of the Galaxy director shed some light on the possibility of actors from the popular Marvel film series joining his DC slate.
Gunn neither denied nor confirmed rumors linking Guardians of the Galaxy actors to future DC projects.
The American filmmaker was recently questioned about such speculations by a fan on Threads. He responded in a cryptic way and shied away from giving out any specific details regarding his upcoming films. Commenting on GOTG stars potentially joining the DC Universe, James Gunn stated, “Well that would be a spoiler wouldn’t it?”
At the time of writing, only one Guardians actor has been confirmed to be switching sides to the DCU. Sean Gunn, who portrayed Kraglin under his brother’s supervision in the Guardians trilogy, has already worked in a DC film. He famously voiced Weasel in 2021’s The Suicide Squad in the now-defunct DCEU. James Gunn’s sibling has now been drafted into the rebooted DC Universe and is set to portray Maxwell Lord and G.I. Robot.
Another Guardians star who has expressed interest in joining the DCU is Chris Pratt. He received worldwide acclaim for his portrayal of Star-Lord/Peter Quill in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Talking to ComicBook.com earlier this year, he reaffirmed his desire to work with James Gunn again and portray Star Lord again. “Anything is possible, and especially with James over at DC,” Pratt stated. “Maybe there’s something that would be right over there. Maybe both. How about both? Let’s do both. I think it’s 100% both,” he added.
Despite all the rumors, no Guardians actor, barring Sean Gunn, has been officially recruited for the DCU at the time of writing. Now, whether they are signed on in the future to be a part of the DCU remains to be seen.
