WARNING: Contains Potential Spoilers for Action Comics #1067!

Superman has stood shoulder to shoulder with numerous DC heroes in his role as one of Earth’s greatest defenders, but there are only two heroes he has absolute faith in when the fate of the entire planet is at stake: Wonder Woman and Batman. However, this acknowledgment raises an intriguing question: If Clark could only choose Diana or Bruce to aid him in combat, who would he choose?

Action Comics #1067 marks the debut of Gail Simone and Eddy Barrow’s first chapter in their trilogy, Superman and the Challenge from the Stars. In this issue, Earth faces yet another existential threat as the Gorathians, an alien race, launch an invasion.

However, the situation quickly escalates beyond a conventional alien incursion when Superman learns that the Gorathians expect him to serve as Earth’s champion in their brutal combat competitions called “games.” If Superman refuses to participate, the planet will be destroyed, but if he is defeated in the games, Earth, its resources, and people must be surrendered to the Gorathians.

Superman Confirms There Are No Two Heroes He Trusts More Than Wonder Woman and Batman

With the threat of Earth’s destruction looming, Clark has no choice but to agree to participate in the games. Upon accepting the role as Earth’s champion, Grunhar, a Gorathian diplomat, informs him that he can choose “two seconds” to assist him. Barrow’s art in this moment captures Clark deliberating over his choices, revealing images of Wonder Woman and Batman. While it’s not surprising that Superman would choose them to stand with him in a battle for Earth’s fate, it underscores their significance as his preferred allies, even in situations that may not align perfectly with their usual strengths.

Wonder Woman is a solid choice for battles of might, butBatman’s selection in this scenario, given his lack of preparation time and it being a fight against unknown aliens, raises questions. However, Superman’s decision to choose Batman underscores his unwavering faith in Bruce. Unfortunately for the Man of Steel, he ends up with neither Batman nor Wonder Woman by his side, as Grunhar decides for him, opting instead for Jimmy Olsen and Lois Lane as Superman’s seconds. As expected, Clark shoulders the main burden of the battle, while Jimmy and Lois do their best to stay out of harm’s way.

If Superman Could ONLY Choose Wonder Woman or Batman to Aid Him in Battle, Who Would He Pick?

Superman confirming that Batman and Wonder Woman would be his top choices for aid in battle raises an intriguing question: if Clark could only pick one, who would it be? While he would likely consider the circumstances, for argument’s sake, let’s imagine he’s unaware of the situation but must choose only one person to have his back. The obvious choice might seem to be Bruce, given their title as the World’s Finest. However, Diana could be seen as the safer and more versatile option, considering her powers and innate wisdom. So, who do you think Superman would prefer: Wonder Woman or Batman?
