Superman & Lois co-showrunners Todd Helbing and Brent Fletcher have consistently teased several cameo appearances across the show’s upcoming season, recently confirming the inclusion of a “significant character” from the comics. The fourth and final season of The CW series will debut this October.

Per TV Line, Superman & Lois‘ creators teased that “there is a pretty significant character from the comics that we were actually surprised that we were able to use — and it’s pretty soon in the season. You hear the name drop, then start hearing that name drop more, and then you see that person eventually.” Given the depth of Superman’s stable of characters from the source material, it would almost be impossible to speculate as to the identity of the character who could also possibly be one from the wider DC Universe.

The Superman & Lois showrunners, alongside series stars Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch, previously teased the mystery guest star at July’s SDCC, while discussing The Flash star Tom Cavanagh’s upcoming cameo. Helbing clarified that Cavanagh won’t appear in the series finale as rumored, with Tulloch teasing a “different surprise guest” for that episode. “There’s a lot of cameos, more than any other season I would say, this year,’ Helbing said.

Developed by Helbing and Greg Berlanti, Superman & Lois debuted on The CW on February 23, 2021, to generally positive reviews from critics. The series follows Hoechlin’s Clark Kent/Superman and Tulloch’s Lois Lane, who return to Smallville with their twin sons, Jonathan (Jordan Elsass replaced by Michael Bishop beginning Season 3) and Jordan Kent (Alex Garfin).

Superman & Lois Stars Pick the DC Characters They Hope to Play Next

Superman & Lois stars Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch would love to play Gotham’s most iconic couple after they leave Smallville and Metropolis.

The penultimate Season of Superman & Lois ended with the Man of Steel fighting the infamous DC villain Doomsday, whom Lex Luthor (Michael Cudlitz) created by repeatedly experimenting on and killing Superman’s Bizarro counterpart. The epic battle will continue into season 4, as showcased in The CW’s recent teaser, laying the groundwork for the series’ adaptation of the iconic “The Death of Superman” storyline from the comics.

Fletcher and Helbing also recently confirmed that the fourth and final season of Superman & Lois will provide closure for all the departing main characters. The CW announced last year that Dylan Walsh (General Lane), Emmanuelle Chriqui (Lana Lang), Erik Valdez (Kyle Cortez), Inde Navarrette (Sarah Cortez), Wolé Parks (John Henry Irons), Tayler Buck (Natalie Irons) and Sofia Hasmik (Chrissy Beppo) had all been downgraded from series regulars to recurring or guest stars due to budget cuts for the fourth and final season of Superman & Lois.

However, despite the actors and their respective characters’ shortened screen times, the Superman & Lois showrunners confirmed that fans will still see their storylines wrapped up satisfyingly before the show ends.

Superman & Lois Season 4 will premiere on October 7, 2024.
