Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth has been stolen! And when you need to track down a thief, sometimes you need to consult a thief–enter former criminal and current hero Plastic Man! Amazonian royalty meets arrogant rubber in this unlikely teamup! Next, the sinister serial killer Mr. Zsasz has escaped Arkham and is targeting victims who had previously escaped his clutches. But will the hunter find himself the hunted? And last but certainly not least, Batman teams up with an unlikely ally for a supernatural trip through some of Gotham’s darkest shadows.

In addition to Batman: The Brave and the Bold #19’s standard cover, artist Riley Rossmo contributes a variant, showing Wonder Woman and her new ally Plastic Man in combat. The duo is being assaulted by grenades, bombs and bullets. Wonder Woman is using Plastic Man as a shield to repel them all.

Wonder Woman’s Magic Lasso Has A Very Real World Origin

Wonder Woman’s Alliance With Plastic Man Creates a Powerful DC Team

Wonder Woman is skilled at the use of many weapons, including her lasso. Wonder Woman’s Magic Lasso has become integral to her character, and reflects the real-world concerns of her creator, William Moulton Marston. The Lasso compels anyone in its grasp to tell the truth. In reality, Marston, a psychologist, helped develop the polygraph. More commonly referred to as a “lie detector,” the polygraph is a real world analog of Wonder Woman’s lasso. In addition to the lasso, Wonder Woman is highly proficient with other weapons as well.

Plastic Man is extremely hard to kill, and when his other abilities are factored in, he becomes one of DC’s most underrated powerhouses. When these powers are combined with Wonder Woman’s, it makes for a formidable team.

Rossmo’s cover for Batman: The Brave and the Bold #19 depicts Wonder Woman using Plastic Man as a shield. At first, this may seem like an odd use for Plastic Man’s stretching abilities, but his durability makes him essentially invulnerable. Plastic Man’s powers also allow him to change his shape, allowing him to infiltrate lairs and headquarters alike. Plastic Man is extremely hard to kill, and when his other abilities are factored in, he becomes one of DC’s most underrated powerhouses. When these powers are combined with Wonder Woman’s, it makes for a formidable team.

Wonder Woman Just Vouched For Plastic Man In a Major Way

Plastic Man Deserves More Respect

Plastic Man’s forthcoming adventure with Wonder Woman in Batman: The Brave and the Bold #19 continues the character’s recent hot streak. Plastic Man appeared in Absolute Power, and is set to receive his own DC Black Label miniseries written by Christopher Cantwell. Plastic Man is one of DC’s oldest characters, with ties to some of comics’ greatest creators, including Jack Cole. While acknowledged as a cult icon, Plastic Man is deserving of more mainstream respect. Wonder Woman knows Plastic Man is on the level, and using him in the place of her Magic Lasso is an enormous vote of confidence.
