The following contains major spoilers for Superman #18, on sale now from DC Comics.

DC’s Absolute Power event has just unleashed a whole new Composite Superman.

After journeying across some of the most treacherous terrain in the Multiverse and coming face-to-face with some of its most dangerous demons, the titular hero of Superman #18 finally has a chance to recuperate and regroup alongside his closest allies. Or rather, he would if not for the sudden appearance of the monstrosity known as Konfusion, who just so happens to have made the trip from Earth 3 to torment any heroes who get in his way.

DC Gives Batman His Very Own Iron Man Armor

DC introduces Batman’s newest high-tech armor — and it eerily resembles Iron Man’s classic MCU suit.

First seen in the pages of 2023’s Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths #1 by writer Joshua Williamson and artists Daniel Sampere, Jack Herbert, Giuseppe Camuncoli, Cam Smith, and Rafa Sandoval, the being known as Konfusion was born from the combined evil doppelgangers of Superman and Batman. While this alone would make character a force to be reckoned with, the villainous Composite Superman also wields a Yellow Lantern Power Ring.

The first Composite Superman, Joseph Meach, made his DC Comics debut in 1964’s World’s Finest #142 in writer Edmond Hamilton and artist Curt Swan’s opening story, “Superman and Batman: The Composite Superman!” Originally, Meach was a competitive diver who, after falling on hard times, nearly lost his life in a stunt dive, only to be saved by none other than the Man of Steel. While this gave Meach a second chance at life, it inadvertently sent him on a path that would see him struck by lightning within the Superman Museum, miraculously imbuing him with the powers of various figures of other heroes nearby.

One of the most important figures in Hal Jordan’s life becomes a superhero herself — and she’s perfect for the role.

Tragically, Meach became a villain, even though his initial outing was cut rather short. In the years since, the Composite Superman as a character and concept has returned and been revisited several times. Fans have even seen the mantle moved on to a host of others, including the shapeshifting alien known as Xan, who terrorized the likes of the Justice League during his short-lived career as a costumed criminal on Earth.
