Don’t worry Wonder Woman fans, as the DC Studios Paradise Lost series is still high on James Gunn‘s priorities list. The series was announced as part of the new DC Universe’s ‘Gods & Monsters’ phase back in early 2023, alongside the likes of Gunn’s own Superman, The Brave and the Bold, Lanterns, and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. While many of the other projects are progressing nicely, some fans have assumed that Paradise Lost — set on the island of Themyscira; home to Wonder Woman and the Amazons — has fallen by the wayside and been quietly shelved. Thankfully, Gunn, who is always present on social media, has given the series a small, but hopeful update.

Taking to Threads, James Gunn was asked by a fan about his plans for the weekend. As someone who enjoys teasing fans with future projects, the director responded to the friendly question by updating the fan base about the status of the new DC Studios projects. “Caught up on editing notes for Superman and Creature Commandos and storyboarding this upcoming round of Peacemaker,” Gunn said. The three aforementioned projects have been overwhelmed with updates from those involved. However, Gunn also cryptically teased that new DC projects could be getting updates soon.

“So now I have to read some scripts I haven’t gotten to,” he continued. Almost every project announced in the ‘Gods & Monsters’ phase has received updates over the last few months (including some surprising new additions), except for Paradise Lost and Booster Gold. However, James Gunn finally rectified this for Paradise Lost, when he was asked about the state of the series. The fan presumed that drafts were being sent in for the series, to which James Gunn simply responded:

“Yes.”

Film and TV is an ever changing industry. New projects are greenlit, pitched, shelved, abandoned, promoted, and released every hour, and it can be hard for studios to keep up with, and follow through on every project that has been announced. It is a feeling that both Marvel and DC fans know well. During the heyday of the MCU, new projects were being greenlit every week, and many ended up being shelved or completely forgotten about.

When the DC Universe (then known as the DCEU) was created by Zack Snyder, several movies were announced and canceled after the universe’s movies failed to engage audiences in the way Warner Bros. had hoped. Thankfully, James Gunn and Peter Safran, the new heads of DC Studios, are trying to rectify past mistakes, and meticulously plan out their upcoming slate so that no projects are forgotten.

James Gunn Explains How Fans Can Avoid Fake DCU Rumors

While debunking a rumor about a Mr Freeze solo movie being in the works at DC Studios, James Gunn offered fans some free advice on the subject.

The director recently announced that they will be doing justice to one of DC’s most underutilized characters on the big screen, Nightwing. A Nightwing (a.k.a. Dick Grayson/the first Robin) movie has been on and off the table at Warner Bros. for nearly a decade. At one point, Adam McKay (The Big Short) was in talks to direct the movie. But it was ultimately shelved after years of development hell. The character is finally being done justice in two upcoming projects. Dick Grayson has been confirmed to appear in an animated Dick Grayson/Jason Todd movie. The character is also expected to star in the recently announced Teen Titans movie, as he was one of the founding members of the team in the comics. While these projects have yet to hit theaters for fans to see how DC Studios can make good on their promised projects, it appears that Gunn and Safran are doing their due-diligence by properly planning out the DCU’s timeline before announcing new movies and shows.
