In brightest day, in blackest night, DC Studios has found its Green Lanterns, and they are just right! The new Max series Lanterns is ramping up, folks!
Set within James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU, the series will be tying in directly with the films and television series within this universe starting with December’s Creature Commandos and next summer’s Superman. Today, we got our official casting announcements legendary lanterns, Hal Jordan and John Stewart.
Speculation on casting for the popular DC heroes has run rampant ever since Gunn and Safran first announced the project in January 2023. Said to be a buddy cop show, in the tradition of True Detective, folks have been excited for the concept and the possible new direction for the series and the Green Lantern mythology. With rumors of several A-listers circulating recently, it is with a terrific sense of anticipation and glee among fans that DC has officially announced that Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights) will be Hal Jordan, and Aaron Pierre (Rebel Ridge) will be John Stewart!
Lanterns will be co-written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King. The first two episodes will be directed by James Hawes. It will center on John Stewart and Hal Jordan being drawn to Earth to investigate a murder in America’s heartland, that will have potential universe-shattering effects on the entirety of the DC Universe!
No word yet on when the series will be dropping, though presumably, once Superman kicks off the cinematic era of the DCU next June. We can expect a slew of projects to drop not long after, including Lanterns.
