Whatever you think of Gotham Knights it wasn’t a hit (WB Games)
The makers of Batman: Arkham Origins are developing a new comic book game but is it based on Batman, Superman or someone else?
It’s fair to say that the last decade or so has not been a great one for video games based on DC Comics characters. Ever since the launch of Batman: Arkham Knight in 2015 the number of new titles has fallen almost to zero and the few exceptions, such as this year’s Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, have been complete disasters.
At the moment, the only AAA title known to be in development is Wonder Woman from Shadow Of Mordor developer Monolith Productions, which was announced in 2021 but has never been seen or mentioned again in public.
Rocksteady Studios is believed to be working on a new game but there’s no real evidence as to what it is yet. However, there is now official confirmation that Gotham Knights (which wasn’t as bad as its reputation suggests) and Batman: Arkham Origins developer WB Games Montréal is working on a new DC Comics game.
Warner Bros. hasn’t made any kind of formal announcement but, as so often happens, a new job ad at WB Games Montréal has revealed far more information than they ever would in public.
For one of the first times ever the developer has realised their mistake and redacted the description (while we were writing this article, in fact). What it used to say though, is as follows:
‘WB Games Montréal, a division of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (WBIE) is looking for a Senior Producer to join its Game Development team, working on AAA titles set in the DC Comics Universe.’
That part after the comma has now been removed but, as you can see, it gave no clue as to what corner of the DC Universe the game might be set in.
The obvious guess is something Batman related, because that’s all WB Games Montréal has been involved with previously, but there’s no certainty of that – especially if Rocksteady is making a new Batman game themselves.
One logical guess would be a Superman game, given the many rumours of failed attempts to make a game based on the character. It would also make sense in that, with Wonder Woman and Batman, it would complete the DC Trinity. Plus, a new Superman movie is the start of the new DC cinematic universe under James Gunn.
Gunn has previously stated that all new games will share continuity, and actors, with the movies and TV show, although he may have said that without realising the practicalities involved.

The Wonder Woman game was started long before Gunn took on his new role, although it’s possible it was refitted to suit his vision, and that’s why it hasn’t been revealed properly yet.
There were rumours of WB Games Montréal games working on a Superman game back in 2022 and while they were never confirmed they were also based around job listings for an unannounced title, which implies that whatever the new game is it’s been in development for at least two years so far.
That’s not long for a modern game, and a senior producer is an important role to fill before things get into gear, but then the Wonder Woman game was also announced long before there was anything to show.
The only DC game that is known about for certain is Meta Quest exclusive Batman: Arkham Shadow which, surprising, is set in the original continuity of Rocksteady’s games. We were very impressed by it when we played it at Gamescom in August and it’s due out on October 22.
