Superman & Lois star Alex Garfin shares if he would be open to taking part in James Gunn’s DC Universe after playing Superboy for four seasons. As one era of DC is coming to end on The CW with the Arrowverse’s conclusion, Gunn’s DC Universe is on the horizon. While Creature Commandos is premiering in less than two months, the Superman film in 2025 will be the first DCU movie to release for the franchise.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant to promote Superman & Lois season 4, Gunn’s DC Universe was brought up when Garfin was asked if he would have any interest in joining the new franchise if he was ever given the call. Garfin, who has been with Superman & Lois since the beginning, shared what kind of roles he would want to play after his time with Jordan Kent, adding the following:

Alex Garfin: If I got that call, it’d be a different conversation. Obviously, in reality versus in theory, the characters I really want to play is probably something a little closer to myself now, though. I got to play this very subdued, very complex [character,] which is beautiful, and I’m so grateful I got to play it, but I would love to do someone that’s a little more extroverted like myself and try to show off a bit of range here. I can’t speak about it, but I got really, really close to a project just like that. It didn’t work out, but it’s how it is. So that’s kind of what I’m going for now, is probably something more along the lines of actually something that James Gunn would write.

I know he’s a little bit more into making a comic book look like a comic book. He did that so brilliantly in his Suicide Squad, which is a rare time. I’ve seen a comic book movie. I know he did that with Guardians of the Galaxy. It has this fun to it. So if I got a call to try to do something similar and things were a little more James Gunn-y, I wouldn’t be opposed. But then again, a lot of actors out there, and I think I would love to give someone else an opportunity as well.

The idea of Garfin continuing in Gunn’s DC Universe after the Superman & Lois series finale isn’t entirely impossible, as there have been plenty of actors to be part of one superhero property before joining another one. Even with the DCEU movie timeline, many actors are coming over for Gunn’s DC Universe in both new and returning roles. There are already plenty of examples of Gunn’s DC Universe still collaborating with actors who have already played various DC roles.

The Peacemaker TV show will bring back John Cena and multiple cast members as their respective characters, as the series was renewed for season 2 but under the DC Universe umbrella. Nathan Fillion, who played T.D.K. in The Suicide Squad, will be part of the Superman movie cast, but this time as Guy Gardner, a.k.a. Green Lantern, which could easily happen for Superman & Lois’ Garfin in a future DC Universe movie or TV show.

While time will tell if Garfin will ever join Gunn’s DC Universe, it makes sense that, as an actor, he would want to play something different from what he did when being part of the Superman & Lois cast. With the amount of characters that exist in the DC canon, there could be plenty of roles for Garfin to take on if he ever joins the DC Universe after Superman & Lois. But for now, the world can continue to catch Garfin as Superboy in Superman & Lois season 4 before the new DC Universe kicks off.

The DC Universe is one of the biggest comic book franchises and often competes with Marvel. DC Comics started as National Allied Publications, founded by Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson in 1935. Since then, the franchise has exploded with thousands of comic books, movies, TV shows, and video games. 2013 marked the beginning of the most recent iteration of the superheroes, with Zack Snyder introducing Henry Cavill as Superman. After several movies with mixed reviews, DC underwent a soft reboot under the helm of James Gunn and Peter Safran.
