The following contains major spoilers for Absolute Superman #2, on sale now from DC Comics.

The latest Lois Lane to grace the Multiverse is finally discovering who she was always meant to be.

Absolute Superman #2 picks up during the ongoing battle between the Man of Steel and the paramilitary forces of Lazarus Corp, whose charge just so happens to be led by none other than one Agent Lois Lane. After seeing Superman in action, Lois’ previous disposition towards the hero softens, while her preconceived notions of him being a legitimate terrorist are completely diminished. So much so, in fact, that she cannot bring herself to brush off the field report as she normally would, no matter how much she typically hates the idea of writing anything whatsoever.

Lois Lane is easily one of Superman’s earliest allies, with her comic book debut coming right alongside the Man of Steel’s own in 1938’s Action Comics #1 in Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster’s opening story, “Superman, Champion of the Oppressed.” As a reporter, Lois was always racing to the scene of the latest story, no matter how dangerous the circumstances surrounding it might be. This, plus her working relationship with Clark Kent, brought her into contact with the Man of Steel on a consistent basis, building the foundation for their decades-long romance.

Rather than serving as a reporter, or even editor-in-chief like her counterpart from the current primary DC Universe, the Lois Lane of the Absolute Universe works as an agent of the malevolent Lazarus Corp. This massive, multinational entity has its hooks in numerous industries, through which it regularly exploits laborers all around the world. Their operations in Brazil, which involve taking hold of valuable mines by force, have seen them utilize overtly violent tactics via their army of Peacemaker soldiers, which in turn brought the situation to the attention of the Absolute Universe’s premiere Kryptonian hero.

DC’s Absolute Wonder Woman Is Leading the Charge Against a Whole New Kind of Threat

The Absolute Universe has just been introduced to its latest oversized monstrosity, and it could be more than Wonder Woman can handle.

Lois Lane and Superman are far from the only iconic DC characters to have gone through demonstrable changes in their Absolute reimaginings. Both Batman and Wonder Woman have also made shocking debuts in the pages of their own solo titles. Similar to the Absolute Superman’s bleak origin, the rest of DC’s new Trinity have experienced strikingly different versions of their own respective beginnings. For Bruce, that has resulted in a Batman who is about as far removed from the wealth and resources of his predecessors as possible, whereas for Diana Prince it means having been raised in the bowels of Hell itself before gracing an unappreciative Earth.
