DC Comics Unlocks New Technology That Heroes Will Need a Strong Stomach to Use, Especially Robin

Warning! Spoilers for DC vs. Vampires: World War V #5!There is so much advanced technology in the DC Universe, but Robin just discovered the most disgusting use for some of DC’s classic tech. With all of this incredible technology, there’s almost an infinite number of uses for it, but Damian Wayne has discovered a horrific new way to use the Atom’s shrinking powers.

Using the technology of the Atom in DC vs. Vampires: World War V #5 by Matthew Rosenberg and Otto Schmidt, the human resistance, consisting of Green Arrow, Black Canary, Killer Moth, Midnighter, Zealot, and Killer Croc, was shrunk down and swallowed by Damian Wayne, who then regurgitated the team on command. Damian violently pukes on the floor, and it turns out his vomit contains the human resistance.

It’s a pretty horrific use of the Atom’s technology, but it’s also undeniably effective. The vampire forces are completely taken by surprise, and they’re able to invade the vampire base and deal some serious damage, all because Damian knows how to puke on command.

DC Comics Embraces a Horrific New Use of a Classic Hero’s Technology

The Earth has been overrun with vampires and an all-out war has broken out between these dark predators and what’s left of humanity. One of the outliers of this war is Damian, who, while being a vampire, is still fighting against the vampire threat. Wanted by the vampire forces, Swamp Thing seemingly captures Damian and brings him to be turned in. After they pass the security checkpoint, Damian unleashes DC’s most disgusting use of technology.

One of the big problems with having such advanced technology in a fictional world is the absurd number of uses for it. For example, boom tubes and teleporters are pretty common bits of technology in the DC Universe. But very rarely have stories used these tools to their full potential. While they’re often used to get characters from point A to point B, that technology could also be used for things like teleporting someone into the moon, for example. Just as the Atom has the technology to shrink, most stories don’t tend to explore the full horrific implications of this ability – such as shrinking down, entering someone’s body, and then becoming a giant.

The Atom’s Technology Has So Many Applications, And Many of Them Are Horrifying

The Atom’s technology has so much destructive potential. Even ignoring the idea of him shrinking down and entering someone’s body to explode it, he could do things like shrink down a nuclear bomb to the size of a grenade. He could likely shrink someone else down so far that they’d fall between the atoms that make up matter, causing them to just fall forever. There’s so much horrific potential with this character, and while most creators haven’t explored it, Rosenberg and Schmidt definitely touch on some of it by hiding the human resistance inside the stomach of a thirteen-year-old vampire.

Usually, there’s no point in exploring the horrible potential of the amazing technology of the DC Universe. But in a world overrun by vampires that have killed the majority of the population, humanity needs every advantage that they can get. Because of the insurmountable vampire threat, the heroes have no choice but to use technology in new and terrifying ways. Most of the vampires in this world are former heroes or villains. They’re well aware of the Atom’s technology, but no one foresaw this disgusting use that turned one Robin into a living Trojan horse.
