There’s an unofficial Sandman variant in the newest Magic: The Gathering set
Wizards of the Coast in in the middle of unveiling details on its new horror-themed set titled Duskmourn: House of Horror here at PAX West 2024, and we couldn’t help but notice that they have more than a bit of DC Comics inspiration.
During the official Duskmourn panel at PAX West 2024, the company revealed a new character called Winter. In the art seen above by Jodie Miur, you can see the goth vibes billowing out of the character’s design. And while by the art alone it isn’t necessarily Sandman-adjacent (as there’s Robert Smith of the Cure), the character’s card description syncs the connection.
The M:TG Card ‘Winter, Misanthropic Guide’ has an ability called ‘Delirium’ – a lesser-known ability in Magic lore. That name, however, ‘Delirium,’ is also the name of one of DC’s Sandman’s sister. While an entire set of Sandman cards in M:TG would be something to dream about (see what I did there?), currently, Wizards of the Coast has no announced partnership with DC (they do, however, with Marvel Comics.)
There are currently no other details on any other Sandman or DC homages in this new Magic: The Gathering deck – but we’ll be on the lookout for you.
