Scott Snyder, one of the masterminds behind DC’s new Absolute Universe, recently sat down for an interview where he shared some notable insights about what fans can expect when it comes to the debut of the Absolute Justice League. While this debut seems inevitable, Snyder cautioned that it won’t be arriving anytime soon, offering a highly valid reason for the delay.

…prioritizing individual characters within the Absolute Universe is understandable and will likely establish a solid groundwork for the eventual debut of the Absolute Justice League…

Scott Snyder recently sat down with John from the wordballoon YouTube channel to discuss all things Absolute Batman. However, the conversation soon shifted to the topic of the Absolute Justice League, specifically whether and when fans would see DC’s premier superhero team debut in the Darkseid-created world.

While Snyder confirmed that he would love to give fans an Absolute Justice League title in the future, he noted that it would be “far away.” Thanks to Snyder’s explanation, it’s clear that the delayed debut of the Absolute Justice League might actually turn out to be a good thing.

In the interview, Snyder explained that before DC develops an Absolute Justice League title, he wants the characters to become aware of each other and connect on a personal level first, experiencing individual interactions before any official team formation. Considering that none of the current Absolute titles—including Absolute Wonder Woman, Absolute Batman, and Absolute Superman—have yet to reference each other, it’s reasonable to assume that these one-on-one meetings, let alone an Absolute Justice League, are still a long way off. Nevertheless, Snyder’s desire to have the characters interact with each other before DC pursues the idea of an Absolute Justice League is valid.

Snyder also elaborated that his current vision for the Absolute Universe is to offer fans something contrasting to the Earth-Prime continuity. He cited that a major benefit of the ALL IN initiative for DC was the revitalized Justice League. Consequently, with the Justice League Unlimited title playing such a significant role in the Earth-Prime continuity, there is no immediate need to explore the same team dynamic within the Absolute Universe. This rationale for prioritizing individual characters within the Absolute Universe is understandable and will likely establish a solid groundwork for the eventual debut of the Absolute Justice League, which will ultimately be beneficial.

“Oh, we would love to do one, but that would be far away. I want the characters to be aware of each other and meet each other [first]. I think part of the goal of this universe is to really give you the opposite of what you have in the other one… One of the big perks of All In was bringing a bigger Justice League in the Unlimited format, so you guys can feel that in that universe, everyone is a part of the same big community. They are all intermingling, and here they are all alone and don’t know each other.” – Scott Snyder

Which Heroes Will Make Up the Absolute Justice League?

While an Absolute Justice League debut still seems a ways off, fans already have a solid idea of which heroes will serve as the team’s flagship members, thanks to the ongoing and upcoming Absolute titles. So far, Wonder Woman, Batman, and Superman have made their Absolute Universe debuts, with The Flash, Martian Manhunter, and Green Lantern soon to follow in their own solo titles. Given this, it’s reasonable to assume these six heroes will be some of the founding members of the Absolute Justice League when the time comes.
