Batman writer Scott Snyder recently teased the arrival of some of The Dark Knight’s most iconic villains. The fan-favorite characters will soon show up in the new Absolute Batman series.
Snyder took to Bluesky to discuss with fans what’s next in the Absolute Batman series. Responding to a fan who asked if Scarecrow or Mr. Freeze would appear in DC’s new Absolute Universe, Snyder responded “Yep, in arc 2.” Another fan asked Snyder which of Batman’s classic villains he was most excited to see in the universe, and he responded with a simple answer: “Bane…”
A Classic DC Hero Just Showed the Entire Justice League the True Power of Love
One of the Green Lantern’s closest confidants – and occasional worst enemies – has just proven exactly how powerful love is in the DC Universe.
The Absolute Batman series made its debut on Oct. 9, giving fans a new twist to Batman’s story. In the Absolute Universe, Batman has no mansion, money or butler, and must navigate crime in Gotham without those luxuries. The series has gotten off to an amazing start at DC Comics, with Absolute Batman #1 quickly selling out and being rushed back to printing with brand-new art. The second issue in the series, which went on sale Nov. 13, saw Batman investigating the Black Mask Gang and going up against none other than his main continuity butler, Alfred Pennyworth.

Over the years, Scarecrow, Mr. Freeze and Bane have become legendary characters in Batman’s Rogues gallery. All three characters also have well-established backgrounds, and it will be interesting to see if their origins change in the Absolute Universe in a way similar to Bruce Wayne’s. With DC’s Absolute Universe also being parallel to its own main continuity, these villains may go on to play a larger role in the DC Universe or Batman’s main story going forward, too.
DC’s latest publishing initiative, All-In, gives fans two different narratives that come together to change the entire DC Universe. The story began earlier this year, launching from DC’s Absolute Power summer event and spinning off with the DC All In Special one-shot story, also by Snyder. Together, the DC Universe and the Absolute Universe are shaping up to give readers an impressive new future for the core DCU.
Nightwing Just Uncovered the Horrifying Truth Behind His Newest Enemies
Nightwing is finally discovering the true extent of his new enemies’ cruelty, and there is no telling how much worse it is going to get.
In addition to Batman’s Absolute Universe counterpart facing significant struggles, DC has also launched Absolute Superman and Absolute Wonder Woman. These new titles imagine the rest of DC’s trinity as underdogs in their own story, with Superman no longer having his Fortress of Solitude, no family to support him or place to call home. Absolute Superman is written by Jason Aaron with art by Rafa Sandoval. In Absolute Wonder Woman, Princess Diana no longer has the island paradise of Themyscira or her sisterhood of Amazons to help support her. The series is written by Kelly Thompson with Hayden Sherman providing art.
Absolute Batman #1 and #2 are available now from DC Comics.
