Batman’s Symbol Gets a Twisted Update Thanks to a Classic Villain’s New Costume

One of Batman’s most surprising enemies is out to corrupt his symbol completely and his new costume shows how far he’s willing to go. Man-Bat has upgraded his operation and now he’s out to claim the Dark Knight’s city for himself. He’s even got an outfit that proves how committed he is to replacing Batman.

There’s a lot to look forward to in June. Aside from the return of DC Pride and the first chapter of DC Comics’ big summer event Absolute Power coming out, a number of exciting ongoing titles are keeping their energy up. Batman and Robin, for example, is drawing ever closer to the end of its current Man-Bat saga.

Batman and Robin #11 was solicited with a main cover by Simone Di Meo. The cover shows Man-Bat’s new persona, the Bat, dressed in a new costume complete with its own upside-down Bat symbol as he looms over the Boy Wonder.

Batman’s Most Terrifying Opposite Reveals His Twisted ‘Batsuit’

After reuniting with his son, Batman teamed up with Robin to investigate a series of break-ins at various scientific facilities around Gotham. The mastermind behind these crimes turned out to be Man-Bat, or rather, a new persona of Kirk Langstrom’s that emerged, calling itself ‘The Bat’. The Bat was intent on destroying Batman’s legacy and supplanting himself as the city’s main protector. To aid his twisted mission, he’s been experimenting with genetic splicing and altering DNA. Man-Bat wasn’t working alone as he also had the mysterious Shush working alongside him, not to mention a growing following who idolized the Bat.

The Bat isn’t joking when he says he wants to take Gotham. His first experiment involved an alteration to Batman’s biology that made bats attack him, turning the Dark Knight’s symbol against him. The Bat has also done everything to get the Cult of the Bat to flourish, treating them like his own twisted ‘Bat-Family’. The Bat believes that he can reclaim Batman’s symbol and his new costume proves it. He’s taken Batman’s iconic logo and flipped it, quite literally, to serve as the Bat’s symbol. If Batman’s not careful, he could wind up losing Gotham to the Bat.

Batman has fought a lot of villains who wanted to destroy Gotham or otherwise run their crime rings unabated. It’s much more rare to see the Caped Crusader fighting someone intent on replacing him, especially a madman like Langstrom. But the Bat is committed and as his costume shows, he’s not stopping until he’s got Gotham under his control. Hopefully, Batman can stop the Bat before the villain succeeds in corrupting the Dark Knight’s symbol for good.
