One of Hollywood’s most versatile actors, Bill Skarsgård, has pitched his dream DCU role as The Brave and the Bold‘s Joker, stoking the fan-casting flames. DC Studios’ rebooted cinematic franchise, the DC Universe, is underway with Creature Commandos leading the charge on Max. While the DCU’s live-action offerings will debut with Superman on July 11, there is no word yet on when Batman will join with his own solo movie. It was confirmed in June 2023 that The Flash director, Andy Muschietti, is due to direct, although there have been no casting confirmations yet.

Talking to Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Bill Skarsgård has thrown his hat into the ring in a bid to portray The Brave and the Bold‘s Joker, asserting “I have a really f***ing cool Joker in me.” Skarsgård’s most recent comic book movie role was as the eponymous character in The Crow, though he has also had a hand in Marvel movies as Kro in Eternals and the short-lived Zeitgeist in Deadpool 2. Skarsgård is one of the most popular picks to portray the Joker in future DC movie installments. The full interview is below:

His Preferred Role Isn’t Confirmed But Is More Likely Than Most

The Brave and the Bold hasn’t received concrete production updates beyond its confirmed director, Andy Muschietti. Skarsgård’s expressed preference may be well-received by certain fan-casters, but it does not mean he is in talks or hinting at intended casting decisions. In fact, Muschietti recently delivered the disappointing update that The Brave and the Bold has “been postponed a bit” in an interview with Vorterix. With that being said, the door may be open a little wider for Skarsgård’s Joker than most.

New Batman Movie: The Brave & The Bold Story, Cast & Everything We Know

DC Studios will introduce an important new version of Batman in The Brave and the Bold. Here’s everything we know about the upcoming DC Universe film.

Bill Skarsgård is renowned for portraying highly expressive characters, with It‘s Pennywise the Clown being among his most illustrious roles. Incidentally, Andy Muschietti directed both It and It Chapter Two, meaning he and Skarsgård have an established working relationship that could feasibly translate to the DCU. Furthermore, Jason Momoa’s recent casting as the DCU’s Lobo shows that the franchise’s finger is on the pulse when it comes to vindicating popular fan-casts. Unfortunately, it may be quite some time yet until the DCU’s Joker is confirmed.

Our Take On Bill Skarsgard’s DCU Casting Wish

The Casting Seems Like One Of The Most Obvious Choices

I hope Bill Skarsgård’s wish is granted. It certainly isn’t hard to see the parallels between Pennywise the Clown and DC’s Joker, with both being terrifying examples of a coulrophobe’s worst nightmare. Following Skarsgård’s comments, I think the only thing standing in the way of delivering on one of the most popular picks for the role is the risk that he might be a little too frightening or extreme for a franchise that so far looks to be adopting a more lighthearted tone.

Warner Bros. is the distributor for both DC movies and the It duology.

Still, it isn’t as if Skarsgård is constrained to horror-tinged roles, with his Marvel movie roles being prime examples. Furthermore, while other popular casting decisions for the Joker comprise older actors, I think the 34-year-old Skarsgård is the perfect age to ensure his rendition of the Joker can go the distance in the DCU’s future. Nevertheless, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the next update on The Brave and the Bold.
