New DC Universe fan art proves that Chris Pine would be perfect for the role of Hal Jordan’s Green Lantern in DC Studios’ upcoming Lanterns series. James Gunn confirmed Lanterns’ development in January 2023, and he and Peter Safran have teased a grounded, True Detective-style storyline for the Earth-based series focused on DC’s cosmic heroes, Hal Jordan and John Stewart. Chris Mundy, Tom King and Damon Lindelof penned the pilot, with Mundy serving as the series’ showrunner, making Lanterns one of DC’s most highly-anticipated upcoming projects.

In recent weeks, Lanterns has been the subject of huge casting speculation, as DC Studios nears casting its live-action Hal Jordan. High-profile stars such as Josh Brolin, Matthew McConaughey and Ewan McGregor have been named in contention for the role, but Chris Pine has also been a popular option. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Brolin passed on playing Green Lantern, while McConaughey has also dropped out of the running, which may give Chris Pine a fighting chance. New fan art shared by 21xfour proves Chris Pine would be perfect as Hal Jordan’s Green Lantern.

What Chris Pine Playing Hal Jordan Would Mean For The DC Universe

Chris Pine Previously Played Steve Trevor In The DC Extended Universe

DC Studios seems to be wanting to cast an older actor as Hal Jordan in the DCU, perhaps taking on more of a mentorship role for the younger John Stewart. However, the possible castings of actors such as Brolin, McConaughey and McGregor has received some backlash from DC Comics fans, so the fact that Chris Pine is the youngest actor on this list, at 44-years-old, could work in his favor. This would mean Pine delivers a more seasoned and hardened Hal Jordan, while still having a youthful and charismatic energy.

DC’s 2011 live-action Green Lantern proved that perfecting the costume is important. The DCU’s Lanterns give them a second chance to get it right.

Hal Jordan wouldn’t be Chris Pine’s first foray into the world of DC, as he previously portrayed pilot and love interest Steve Trevor in 2017’s Wonder Woman and its disappointing 2020 sequel. Trevor was a relatively minor role for Pine, who has received huge acclaim for his performances in the rebooted Star Trek franchise, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Casting Pine as Hal Jordan would give him a more substantial role in the DCU, and bring some star power and a familiar face into the budding new franchise.

Our Take On Chris Pine’s Possible Green Lantern Casting

Chris Pine Would Be An Inspired Choice For Green Lantern

With experience in fast-paced, action-heavy projects, science fiction movies and superhero flicks, Chris Pine would be an excellent choice for the role of Hal Jordan in Lanterns. He is young enough to be able to carry the Green Lantern mantle for several years, while old enough to deliver the wise mentor role brilliantly. Chris Pine has been missing from a major franchise for quite some time, and his future in the Star Trek franchise is still uncertain, so he deserves to come back in style with this crucial role in the DC Universe.
