Colin Farrell is close to suiting up for DC Studios, as he’s in talks to star in their Sgt. Rock film. THR reports that Farrell is in negotiations to play the title role in the World War II DC Comics-inspired action film, which is set to be directed by Luca Guadagnino.

If he signs on, Farrell would take the role that Daniel Craig was circling late last year but was never officially offered. Landing Farrell would return the studio’s plans to shoot the film over the summer in England.

Farrell previously worked with DC Studios on The Batman and its TV spinoff The Penguin, the latter of which earned him a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Miniseries or Television Film.

Sgt. Rock was created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert and debuted in Our Army at War #83 in June of 1959. The character has been targeted for films in the past, including one starring Arnold Schwarzenegger in the late 1980s and early 1990s as well as one in the late ’00s with Bruce Willis, but they’ve never come to pass.
