Daniel Craig is being eyed to star in the DC Studios feature Sgt. Rock for director Luca Guadagnino.

The movie adaptation of the DC Comics character is in early stages, with no deal yet in place for Craig or Guadagnino. The project has a script from screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes, who penned Challengers and Queer, with the latter being an A24 title that hits theaters Nov. 27 and counts Guadagnino as director and Craig as star.

Plot details for Sgt. Rock have not been shared. Created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert, Sgt. Rock is a World War II soldier who first appeared in comics in 1959.

Craig stars alongside Drew Starkey and Lesley Manville in Queer, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival. The former James Bond actor’s other upcoming projects include Netflix’s Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.

Guadagnino has been busy of late, having recently wrapped filming on Amazon MGM Studios’ After the Hunt, a thriller starring Julia Roberts, Andrew Garfield and Ayo Edebiri. Also in the works is his updated take on author Bret Easton Ellis’ novel American Psycho for Lionsgate.

DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran debut their first phase of projects with the animated series Creature Commandos, hitting Max on Dec. 5. Among the company’s forthcoming features is Superman, the Gunn-directed movie flying into theaters next year.

Craig is represented by CAA, Independent Talent Group and Glaser Weil. Guadagnino is repped by CAA, Range Media Partners and Goodman Genow.

DC Studios declined to comment.
