DC Comics has released more information about its upcoming “Summer of Superman,” teasing exciting team-ups from some of the highest-tier creative talents in the comic book industry, as well as major plot developments, including the return of Lex Luthor – all starting with the Summer of Superman Special, which hits in April.
As announced by DC, Dan Slott, author the upcoming Superman Unlimited series, will join forces with Justice League Unlimited author Mark Waid for the Summer of Superman Special one-shot issue, which will officially inaugurate the publishing initiative of the same name, slated to run over the ensuing several months.
According to the publisher, this slate of exciting titles is meant to “celebrates the Man of Steel’s enduring legacy as a pop culture icon,” as he approaches his 90-year anniversary as a centerpiece of comic book history.

DC had previously teased the “Summer of Superman” alongside the announcement of Superman Unlimited, and now the publisher has given fans a much better idea of what it will entail. As noted by the publisher, Superman #25 will feature the return of Lex Luthor to DC continuity, while Superman: The World will team up authors Dan Jurgens and Lee Weeks with “a team of fifteen international creators” to bring Superman beyond the scope of the United States, in a title the publisher touted will be published simultaneously in over a dozen different countries.
