Warning: Spoilers for Green Lantern / Green Arrow: World’s Finest Special #1Though Green Arrowhas faced many villains over the years, he’s never quite managed to find his own iconic rival, but he’s gotten close with Deathstroke. That said, their first meeting has never really been explained – until now. Fans finally get to see the first confrontation between these two that would kick off a decades-long rivalry.
Green Arrow and Green Lantern seem like the perfect match, and it seems that DC agreed, considering that the two starred in the iconic Hard Travelin’ Heroes story by Dennis O’Neil, Neal Adams, Mike Grell, and Dick Giordano that followed the two characters traveling across America together. This story proved so popular that DC has decided to revisit it with Green Lantern / Green Arrow: World’s Finest Special #1 by Jeremy Adams and Lucas Meyer.
Not only is this special one-shot a return to one of the greatest times in these characters’ histories, but it also reveals one of the first times that Green Arrow and Green Lantern went up against Deathstroke. While Deathstroke isn’t a recurring villain for Green Lantern, Green Arrow has gone up against him several times and has developed something of a history with the one-eyed mercenary.
DC Finally Reveals Green Arrow And Deathstroke’s First Meeting in a New World’s Finest Special
Green Lantern / Green Arrow: World’s Finest Special #1 by Jeremy Adams, Lucas Meyer, Marcelo Maiolo, and Lucas Gattoni
Being a mercenary, Deathstroke doesn’t really care who he fights; as long as the money is good, he’ll go after whoever he has to – which is why he’s gone up against heavy-hitters like the Flash, Superman, Batman, and Green Arrow. While he’s mostly a Titans villain, specifically to Nightwing, he has fought Green Arrow quite a lot over the years. It’s gotten to the point that they could easily be considered rivals, but the exact context of their first meeting hasn’t really been explored before. This new issue will be covering one of the first times that Green Arrow really went up against Deathstroke, which would become a regular fight for Ollie later.

It’s true that Green Arrow doesn’t have the connection to Deathstroke that a character like Nightwing does. However, they’ve still had some pretty nasty encounters with one another. Right after DC’s line-wide One Year Later story arc after Infinite Crisis, Deathstroke was hired to kill the mayor of Star City, who was none other than Green Arrow. As a response, Green Arrow sought out Deathstroke’s own master, Natas, and learned everything he could from him. With these developments, the two characters actually have a much deeper connection than someone like Batman has to Deathstroke, for example.
