Introduced all the way back in 1938’s Action Comics #1 in Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster’s opening story, “Superman: Champion of the Oppressed,” Lois Lane is one of the Man of Steel’s oldest and closest confidants. A fellow reporter for the Daily Planet (originally the Daily Star), Lois has always thrown herself headfirst into danger if it means getting closer to a hit story. While Lois has largely maintained her humanity, the Golden Age iteration of the character was known to acquire various superpowers of her own at different points, with these abilities usually being relegated to the events of single, one-off stories.
The Kryptonian abilities currently wielded by the modern Lois Lane were acquired after the defeat of Amanda Waller and her superpowered army during the recently concluded Absolute Power event. Using an team of supercharged Amazo androids, Waller was able to steal away with the powers of many of the DC Universe’s most prominent heroes. Although these powers were ultimately released from the Amazos that had claimed them, not all of these powers were returned to their original owners. As such, various characters have found themselves either powerless or wielding abilities they never imagined for themselves, with Lois now wielding those of any other Kryptonian living under a yellow sun.

General Zod is a classic DC villain, with his first appearance taking place Robert Bernstein and George Papp’s opening story from 1961’s Adventure Comics #283, “Superboy: The Phantom Superboy.” A Kryptonian military genius, Zod was well respected by many of his fellow Kryptonians, though not necessarily beloved by them. After attempting to lead a military coup of his homeworld, Zod was stripped of his ranks and sentenced to the Phantom Zone for his crimes. In the decades since, Zod has been reimagined numerous times, yet he has always maintained the core tenets of his character.
