The following contains major spoilers for Batman ’89: Echoes #4, on sale now from DC Comics.

The world of Batman ’89 has just given the Dark Knight his very own Iron Man armor.

Batman ’89: Echoes #4 finds Bruce Wayne fighting alongside some of Gotham’s most menacing figures as his undercover stint in Arkham Asylum leaves him in the middle of a near-lethal breakout. Thankfully, Bruce’s close ally and self-proclaimed Robin, Drake Winston, is none too far to offer some much-needed assistance. Not only does Drake show up when Bruce needs him the most, but he also comes bearing a briefcase that contains a Batman suit that quite literally builds itself out on top of its owner’s physical form with little more than the push of a button.

Batman ’89: Echoes kicks off two years after the original Batman ’89 comic book miniseries by Sam Hamm and Joe Quinones back in 2021, which itself is an extension of Tim Burton’s Batman feature film universe and picked up shortly after the events of 1992’s Batman Returns. Hamm and Quinones’ original Batman ’89 brought back fan-favorite versions of iconic characters, such as Billy Dee Williams’ Harvey Dent, who was finally given the opportunity to become the villainous Two-Face fans have begged to see for more than three decades.

Batman ’89 also introduced the character of Drake Winston, better known as the Robin or Avenging Eagle of the Burtonverse. Initially an auto mechanic at the Royal Autobody shop in Gotham City’s Burnside neighborhood, Drake was inspired by Batman to become a vigilante of his own. Eventually, Drake discovered Batman’s true identity as Bruce Wayne, unwittingly cementing a place for himself within the budding but small Batman family of the Burtonverse.
