The following contains major spoilers for SHAZAM! #19, on sale now from DC Comics.

One of Billy Batson’s closest confidants has just been revealed as the newest take on a classic villain.

While the monstrous Mister Mind and his cohorts prepare for the next step in their villainous plot, the titular hero of SHAZAM! #19 is busy figuring out exactly what he needs to do next. As far as Billy can tell, most of the problems he is facing are directly his fault, although his friend and romantic interest Beau is more than happy to offer him some much-needed words of encouragement. Then again, Billy doesn’t know that Beau is actually the daughter of one of his oldest enemies, and Beautia Sivana is only setting Shazam up for the biggest downfall of his life.

The daughter of the malevolent Doctor Thaddeus Sivana, Beautia Sivana made her comic book debut in the opening story from 1940’s Whiz Comics #3B, “Captain Marvel: Sivana’s Venusian Kingdom,” by Bill Parker and C.C. Beck. Taking after her mother, Beautia was born with an unwavering charm rather than a super-genius intellect. This didn’t make Beautia any less capable, however, and she served dutifully alongside the rest of her family in their ongoing war against the likes of Shazam and his superpowered allies.

Although Beautia played the role of a villain like her siblings Magnificus, Thaddeus Jr., and Georgia for quite some time, she would eventually come around to forming an alliance with Shazam, at least in the original, Fawcett Comics Captain Marvel continuity. In the years since, Beautia has been reimagined several times, with appearances ranging from DC Comics’ previous New Earth timeline and her current, more prominent iteration. Beautia even made a brief appearance in 2013’s Smallville Season 11 #10 by Bryan Q. Miller and Jorge Jiménez as an employee at S.T.A.R. Labs.

DC’s Absolute Wonder Woman Just Paid the Ultimate Sacrifice

The new Wonder Woman has just given fans a gruesome look into how much of herself she is willing to sacrifice to be a superhero.

The current version of Beautia has spent months becoming a close friend of Billy Batson’s all while working alongside other nefarious figures behind the scenes, primarily Mister Mind. This mystical (formerly alien) parasite has long been a foe of Shazam, yet rarely has he gone to such great lengths to destroy his nemesis. Rather than focusing on a singular avenue of attack, Mister Mind has crafted a means of distributing his various physical bodies through digital media, opening the door for him to infect and possess the entire world in one fell swoop instead of trying to claim control over individual heroes who might be capable of beating Shazam in a fight.
