Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Absolute Wonder Woman #2
Undoubtedly, the first members of Absolute Wonder Woman’s rogues gallery look far more dangerous (and way bigger) than the foes typically faced by DC’s main Amazon hero. Having debuted with darker and very different origins in a reality created by Darkseid, Absolute Wonder Woman’s mission to protect Earth has also been redefined. To that end, the threats facing this new version of Diana are all kinds of horrifying and intense.
In the first issue of DC’s Absolute Wonder Woman by Kelly Thompson and Hayden Sherman, it’s revealed that Diana is the Last Amazon, having been raised in Hell by Circe after the rest of the Amazons were punished by Zeus. To that end, Wonder Woman grows up to become the Princess of Hell and the Witch of the Wild Isle, riding a skeletal Pegasus and wielding a massive sword and a dark lasso made from the basilisk remains and the blood of Prometheus. However, even a warrior as mighty as Absolute Wonder Woman is still dwarfed by the new foes she’s facing:
As confirmed in Absolute Wonder Woman #2, this darker and more intense version of Wonder Woman is tasked with protecting Earth from massive kaiju-like monsters rather than more average supervillains as one might have expected. This includes the coming of the Tetracide, a truly gargantuan supernatural monster Absolute Wonder Woman herself seems to fear.
Absolute Wonder Woman Protects Earth Against Massive Kaijus
Ancient Monsters Known As Harbingers
As seen in the first two issues of Absolute Wonder Woman, Diana takes on swarms of winged creatures known as the Harbingers. This includes the commanding and kaiju-sized “Harbinger Prime” whom Absolute Wonder Woman quickly defeats after using her lasso known as Nemesis. Using its power to bind and burn in proportion to its victim’s sins and transgressions, Diana frees Harbinger Prime on the condition that it leaves Earth alone and never returns with its legions.
I Can’t Believe How DC Has Reinvented The Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman Trinity (& They Haven’t Even Met Yet!)
DC’s Absolute versions of Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman are intense, and the Absolute Trinity is going to be a true force to be reckoned with.
Ultimately, Diana’s monstrous new foe agrees to her terms in Absolute Wonder Woman #2. That said, a harbinger is merely something or someone that signals the coming of another. Harbinger Prime’s retreat was really only to make way for something far worse, arriving before Absolute Wonder Woman merely an hour later at the end of this new issue.
Even Absolute Wonder Woman Fears The Tetracide
“Death, Personified”
Confirmed by Diana herself as “Death, Personified”, the kaiju-sized monster known as The Tetracide makes Absolute Wonder Woman and her allies look like nothing more than ants. Likewise, Diana herself looks to be very short on hope or optimism given the dark confidence of her words. After all, she claims that this new foe leaves nothing in its path and that none who see it ever survive.
“It’s going to be very exciting to see how Diana survives this encounter, and what foes Absolute Wonder Woman might fight in the future that could possibly be worse than the one she’s currently facing…”
To that end, it’s abundantly clear that the growing rogues’ gallery of Absolute Wonder Woman is on a whole ‘nother level compared to Diana’s villains in the main DC Universe. As such, it’s going to be very exciting to see how Diana survives this encounter, and what foes Absolute Wonder Woman might fight in the future that could possibly be worse than the one she’s currently facing. So far, Absolute Wonder Woman’s rogues gallery (and origins) have been absolutely wild.
Absolute Wonder Woman #2 is on sale now from DC Comics.
