Creature Commandos
transformed Wonder Woman’s oldest rival into a hero, which could have serious consequences for the rest of the DCU
. The DCU has finally arrived, with the premiere show of the new franchise being James Gunn’s Creature Commandos. While the series follows a group of largely lesser known heroes, it has crossovers with other heroes and villains from the DCU, helping to set the stage for what could come next in the DC Universe.
However, the show is not playing it safe, as it introduces intense storylines, with far-reaching consequences, and even alters the motives and powers of characters that have been around for decades. One such character is the oldest supervillain rival of Wonder Woman, Circe, whose history in the comics stretches back to 1949, but Creature Commandos take on the character in episode 4 has actually given her a heroic storyline. And because of the shared universe of the DCU, this could change a lot of other things moving forward.
Creature Commandos’ Episode 4 Circe Reveal Makes Her Seem Far More Heroic
Circe Is Actually Trying To Save The World
In Creature Commandos episode 4, Circe has been captured by Task Force M. They bring her back to Amanda Waller, who seeks to question her about her motives for attacking the small nation of Pokolistan, and Circe’s response reframes everything that happened on the show up to this point. Circe claims that she attacked Princess Ilana, because she has had visions of a future where the Justice League die in a massacre which will be led by Princess Ilana.

I Can’t Believe The DCU Just Showed Peacemaker’s Death 8 Months Before His Season 2 Return & The Implications Are Massively Important
Creature Commandos has really upped the stakes for the rest of the DCU after just 4 episodes, and it could change everything for Peacemaker season 2.
While Waller was initially hesitant to take Circe at her word, she was able to experience the vision for herself, and then pull in an expert to confirm that Circe’s vision was likely real, and could spell certain disaster for the rest of the world. However, Circe’s efforts to rush in and take on this girl who will one day have the power to take on the world’s greatest superhero team, make her appear like a genuine hero. Yes, she could have tried to get help, but this supposed villain chose to put herself in harm’s way in an effort to save the world.
Why The DC Universe Making Circe A Hero Would Make Sense For The Franchise
The DCU Has A Lot To Prove From The Beginning
Superhero movies and shows can be incredible. And obviously, a lot of people enjoy them, because they consistently rake in hundreds of millions of dollars at the box office. However, some superhero stories can get boring quickly, especially if the lines are drawn very plainly between good and evil. For storytellers like James Gunn, it appears to be an important, prominent theme in his projects to highlight that sometimes, things are gray, instead of simply black and white. And taking a long time hero and giving them a hero arc could certainly help to cement that idea as part of the foundation of the DCU.
On the other hand, even if this proves to be a clever trick on Circe’s part, and the character is truly evil, having it appear like they were trying to be a hero can make the eventual reveal much more engaging. Either way, it’s an interesting idea to take a villain with a consistent history of being evil, and doing something a little different. It breaks the mold, and after the events of the DCEU, the new DCU certainly needs shaking up.
Creature Commandos Has Already Set Up A Fascinating Storyline For The DC Universe To Follow On From
The DCU Has A Lot Still To Prove
On top of this, the vision itself has major implications for the future of the DCU. Whether that means having Circe remain a semi-heroic figure, or if it means having her revert back to her supervillain ways, the character has been introduced well in advance of her age-old rival, Wonder Woman. However, Circe’s vision implies that there could be major trouble ahead for the heroes of the Justice League and Peacemaker, which could have a much bigger ripple effect on the DCU.

Creature Commandos Copies The Controversial Justice League Decision That Outraged DC Fans
Creature Commandos has made some major moves for the DCU despite being the first entry in the newly reborn franchise, and it could be controversial.
Depending on how Creature Commandos resolves the story, the immediate threat of Princess Ilana could be dealt with, but other elements of the vision, such as Gorilla Grodd being present, hint that this character and others could team up and amass forces that are powerful enough to rival the superheroes. It all comes down to what happens in the Creature Commandos finale, but the rest of the DCU is being shaped by this project, and with such major developments happening from the outset, big things could be coming for the heroes soon in the DCU.
