Warning: Spoilers for Jenny Sparks #2Superman has a reputation as the strongest character in the DC Universe thanks to his Kryptonian power, but there’s one character whose powers surpass his: Captain Atom. This former Justice League hero has gone rogue, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake. Now, he’s unveiled a shocking ability that makes Superman look like a weakling, and itpotentially elevates him to the level of gods.

In Jenny Sparks #2 by Tom King, Jeff Spokes, and Clayton Cowles, Jenny Sparks of the Authority has been recruited by the Justice League to help them face off against an unstoppable new threat. Captain Atom, a Superman-level hero, has taken several innocent people hostage in a bar as the heroes try to formulate a plan to rescue them. Before he can be stopped, Captain Atom ends up killing one of the hostages in a flash of light, only to bring him back to life minutes later without breaking a sweat.

Captain Atom’s godlike power is on full display in this staggering moment, and his ability to kill and resurrect people instantly is beyond anything Superman could ever be capable of.

Captain Atom’s New Power Puts Superman to Shame

Captain Atom Can Control Life and Death

By disintegrating and then reviving one of his hostages like it’s nothing, Captain Atom has cemented his status as DC’s most powerful hero. He also cures another hostage’s cancer with a single touch on his shoulder, pushing his abilities even further. Captain Atom appears to be disassembling and reassembling the atomic structures of these human beings in seconds. This astonishing feat shows that he has what it takes to beat Superman in a fight, with one touch being enough to take the Man of Steel down. Captain Atom was already stronger than Superman, and now the gap between them has widened significantly.

Although Captain Atom and Superman are on opposing sides in this story’s universe, they’ll both be using their powers for good as founding members of the main DCU’s new Justice League in
Justice League Unlimited
by Mark Waid and Dan Mora, available November 27th, 2024 from DC Comics!

As formidable as Superman is, he pales in comparison to Captain Atom’s death-defying might. At the start of the issue, Jenny tells Superman that Captain Atom will slaughter him, and it’s not difficult to see why she’d believe that. It’s been revealed that Captain Atom is immune to Superman’s X-Ray vision due to his radiation interfering with it, and he’s just proven he can vaporize Superman with ease. Captain Atom’s powers therefore render Superman completely useless. Kryptonian abilities are laughable compared to his, and the threat of Captain Atom will only grow more dire as he continues to pursue godhood.

Captain Atom Is Becoming a God-Tier Threat

Can Superman Stand a Chance Against Godhood?

Captain Atom has made it known that his goal is to be recognized by everyone around him as a god. Considering that his powers are enough to defeat Superman, he seems to be well on his way to that status. His ability to toy with life and death on a whim puts him on par with gods, so there’s a chance he’s close to becoming a god himself. With the Justice League on stand-by and Superman powerless against him, Jenny Sparks may be the only one in the DC Universe who can stop Captain Atom’s ascent to godhood before it’s too late.

Jenny Sparks #2 is available now from DC Comics.
