DCU Batman’s Most Popular Casting Choice Has Already Said He’d Take The DC Superhero Role

The DC Universe will introduce a new version of Batman, and the most popular casting choice for the Dark Knight has already said that he would accept the role. The DCU is only a partial reboot of the now-bygone DC Extended Universe timeline, with some characters carrying over into the new continuity and others being recast and reimagined from the ground up. With Ben Affleck stepping down and Robert Pattinson’s Batman being part of an Elseworlds continuity, the DCU will need a new Batman for the upcoming movie The Brave and the Bold.

The Brave and the Bold will be directed by Andy Muschietti, who previously directed The Flash for the DCEU, which featured two iterations of Batman. Despite both versions only being supporting characters, Muschietti proved that he is an excellent fit for the Batman character and mythos, which bodes well for the upcoming DC releases, as The Brave and the Bold will be based on Grant Morrison’s famous Batman comic runs. The film will feature both Batman and the Damian Wayne iteration of Robin, implying perhaps that this Batman has already had previous sidekicks.

Why Jensen Ackles Would Be The Perfect Choice For The DCU’s Batman

Perhaps the most popular choice for this new Batman is Jensen Ackles, who, interestingly, has already played the Dark Knight before in non-DCU animated movies. Ackles’ acting talent and experience in the role already make him an ideal choice to play Batman in the DCU, but there is another major reason why he would be perfect: Jensen Ackles wants to play the role of Batman in the DCU.

In an interview with Deadline, Jensen Ackles – who is rumored to be in the running to play Batman – addressed both the rumors and his own interest in returning to the role, albeit in a live-action film. Ackles said, “I mean, could I do it? Sure. Would I want to do it? Yes.” The actor also jokingly addressed the rumored possibility that Pedro Pascal might get the role instead, feeling that Pascal would also do well as the DCU’s Batman.

When The DCU Batman Casting Might Be Announced

The Brave and the Bold was announced as part of the DCU’s upcoming slate of film and TV properties in late January 2023. The film has no set release date yet, but even with this in mind, the announcement of the DCU’s Batman casting may happen sooner rather than later. As one of DC’s most iconic superheroes, Batman’s new actor may be announced as early as sometime in 2024, but the sooner the film’s release date is revealed, the sooner viewers can expect to learn whether the DC Universe’s Batman will be played by Jensen Ackles or another talented actor.
