Eisner Awards announce judges.
Marvel celebrates Amadeus Cho.
Aquamanatee swims into DC Comics.
This is Comic Book Club News for February 14, 2025.
The 2025 Eisner Awards judges have been announced, so you know who you need to shmooze if you want to get the award. Just kidding. Maybe.
Per The Beat, this year’s judges include Robert V. Conte, Kacy Helwick, Meg Lemke, Eitan Manhoff, and Rocco Versaci.
As usual, the judges run the gamut of the industry: Helwick is a librarian, Lemke is a journalist, and Manhoff is a retailer, for example. This year’s awards, which will be held during San Diego Comic-Con, will include 30 awards, the exact lineup TBD. And the Hall of Fame nominees will be decided by a separate committee. More on this as we get closer to this year’s Eisners.
He doesn’t look a day over being a teen of some sort, but Amadeus Cho is turning 20 years old this year. And to celebrate his debut in 2005’s Amazing Fantasy #15, Marvel is releasing a 20th Anniversary Special jumping throughout the eras of Cho.
Written by Cho’s co-creator Greg Pak, the book will feature three stories including one with his other co-creator, artist Takeshi Miyazawa. The other two artists included are Creees Lee and Jethro Morales.
Stories will include one on the eve of World War Hulk, a return to the Totally Awesome Hulk era as Amadeus and his sister discover a heartbreaking secret, and finally one in his current Brawn era — including a new look going forward.
Amadeus Cho 20th Anniversary Special #1 hits stores on May 7.
Ben Clanton is the creator of the enormously successful, enormously adorable book series Narwhal and Jelly. And now he, along with Cassandra Federman, is taking his under the sea talents to DC Comics with Aquamanatee.
In the book, Marlow the Manatee dreams of being a hero like Aquaman, but he’s got a few problems. He sleeps in, he eats too much, and most important of all, he’s never left the safety of his saltwater bay. That is until he gets superpowers and teams up with Aquaman himself.
Or as DC puts it, per PR provided to Comic Book Club, “Could an awkward blundering super-powered manatee be the best man-atee for the job?”
The graphic novel is aimed at Early Readers, ages 5 through 7, and hits stores on September 2.
