DC has an interesting slate of movies and shows coming in 2025 to kick off a new period for the franchise!

2024 was, in many ways, the end of an era for DC Comics. The DCEU, with its tortured history, ended with the year prior with Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom sinking fast, so there weren’t any new films from that franchise this year. The CW’s Arroweverse also closed out after 12 years with Superman and Lois, while their animated film universe also ended with the Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths trilogy.

It’s a new day for DC Comics on TV and film, with James Gunn and Peter Safran crafting a new DC Universe. There have been shifts as The Batman II is now delayed until 2026, and other projects are in the works. So DC’s 2025 slate isn’t as huge as Marvel’s, but there are new notable entries coming, so here’s a calendar of what to expect so far in the coming year!

Harley Quinn Season 5

Release date: January 16, 2025

Everyone’s favorite psychopath is back in season 5 of the Max animated hit series Harley Quinn. Having reconciled, Harley (Kaley Cuoco) and Poison Ivy (Lake Bell) are hitting Metropolis with the rest of the gang (Bane, King Shark, Clayface) in tow. That means facing Lex and Lena Luthor and the threat of Brainiac, not to mention a certain Man of Steel.

Seeing these two mingle with the Superman mythos with their usual madcap energy should be a blast to continue this fabulous animated show. We don’t yet know if Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios plan on renewing it for another season after this one, but Harley Quinn certainly doesn’t look like it plans on slowing down anytime soon.

Superman

Release date: July 11, 2025

This is the big gun, no pun intended. James Gunn’s kickoff to the new DC Universe is likely to be a huge event as a Superman movie is a big deal. David Corenswet is the Man of Steel, starting his career as a hero to win over the public. Rachel Brosnahan is Lois Lane, his friendly rival who may become more, while Nicholas Hoult is Lex Luthor.

Bigger is the supporting cast of DC characters: Hawkgirl (Isabel Merced), Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan), Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), the Engineer (María Gabriela de Faría) and Mr. Terrific (Edi Gathegi). This is the kickoff to the new DCU to set up future films and also finally be the 21st-century Superman movie fans have long awaited.

The first trailer was just released, and it broke records in one day. Anticipation for this one is -unsurprisingly – very, very high.

Peacemaker Season 2

Release window: August 2025

As his WWE career winds down, John Cena will be jumping back into the main role of this wild comedy. Once more, Peacemaker is on a strange mission for Task Force X with the support of Adrian Chase (Freddie Stroma) and the other gang of misfits. But the mistakes of his past will haunt Peacemaker, mainly how he killed Rick Flagg in The Suicide Squad movie. Now, Flagg’s father (Frank Grillo) wants revenge and is organizing the Creature Commandos to get it.

Expect more insane action, laugh-out-loud comedy, and a few surprises as the second season is set to be a nice continuation of this nutty show.

The Sandman Season 2

Release window: TBD (likely late 2025)

There’s no official date set, but the second season of The Sandman, the acclaimed Vertigo title, is expected to arrive in 2025. It will follow the “Season of Mists” and “Brief Lives” story arcs of the comic as Dream (Tom Sturridge) unites with the rest of his supernatural family: Delirium (Esme Creed Miles), Destruction (Barry Sloane) and Destiny (Adrian Lester)

A big turn is Lucifer (Gwendoline Christie), shockingly quitting as ruler of Hell and giving Dream the keys to it. Thus, Dream has to handle various forces from the Norse gods to others who want control for themselves. It should be a wonderful year to continue this fantastic take on a classic comic.

The Sandman season 2 has been a long time coming, so to say that fans are ready for it would be a major understatement.

Bat-Family

Release window: TBD

Merry Little Batman — Courtesy of Amazon Studios

The successor to the beloved Merry Little Batman special, TV series Bat-Family is expected to premiere on Prime Video in 2025, and it will show us Bruce Wayne adapting to an extended family coming to Wayne Manor. That will likely include the likes of Nightwing, Batgirl, Spoiler and maybe some other Gotham City heroes (and perhaps a couple of villains too).

Bat-Family will be more inclined toward younger viewers yet could be a funnier take on the Batman mythos with some wonderful charm to it.
