Everyone loves the Batmobile, but even that amazing car can’t compare to Batman’s cooler, and much bigger, mecha. Over the years, Bruce Wayne has used his immense wealth to finance some pretty cool weapons, but now he’s trading in his iconic Batmobile for something that can really help him out in a fight.

The year is racing by quickly and before long, summer will be here. DC Comics has given fans a peek at what lies ahead in the coming months with its June solicitations. In addition to things like the new DC Pride special, fans are getting an extra treat in Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #40.

Dan Mora provides the issue’s main cover, which shows the talk show Gotham tonight being interrupted by a battle as Clark assists Bruce while he operates a giant Batman-like mech to fight a gigantic monster. This mecha is also seen, in part, on Adrián Gutiérrez’s variant cover.

Batman Gets Giant Mecha to Fight Monster in Killer Cover

The Dark Knight Brings Out Epic Weapon for Epic Battle

Ever since he first set out to fight crime, Batman has always relied on additional gadgets and weapons to take on greater threats. Using his family’s assets, he was able to come up with an array of innovative toys that helped him become the hero he is today. Of course, few of his innovations stand out as much as the Batmobile, his trademark vehicle that he zips around all over Gotham in. In his time as a hero, he has refined the car numerous times, always perfecting his design to make it the most formidable weapon in Batman’s entire arsenal.

Of course, as cool as the Batmobile is, nothing compares to a giant robot one can pilot, right? While it’s definitely different, fans shouldn’t be too surprised to see the Caped Crusader operating such a massive mech. His Justice Buster batsuit is basically a more portable (but still very powerful) mecha. And in Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong, Batman built a Titan-sized robot to battle the Legion of Doom and the beasts Lex Luthor had under his control. While a car like the Batmobile is definitely still cool, its hard to beat the image of Batman operating a mecha.

The Batmobile Can’t Compete with Batman Piloting a Mech

When Things Get Serious, a Giant Robot is Far More Effective Than Batman’s Car

Batman’s obviously never going to get rid of the Batmobile since it’s too integral to his operation in Gotham. That being said, when a monster the size of a skyscraper attacks, a tricked-out car is only going to go so far. This kind of Bat-Mech is perfect for the admittedly rare occasions when Gotham is attacked by an overwhelmingly large threat. Not only does a mech really allow Batman to let loose on a monster, it simply looks cool as hell too. Sure, the Batmobile is a beloved part of history, but the mech has a coolness factor that’s hard to replicate.

Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #40 is available on June 18th from DC Comics.
