Glen Powell Addresses Whether Marvel Or DC Has Called Him Over A Future Comic Book Casting

Glen Powell reveals whether or not he has been approached by Marvel Studios or DC Studios for a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe or the DC Universe. While the MCU timeline is still going, James Gunn’s DC Universe is on its way, making it clear that the superhero genre is not going away anytime soon. As many actors have been tapped for various superheroes and villains in both franchises, there are still many stars in Hollywood who have yet to suit up.

During a recent appearance on The Playlist’s The Discourse Podcast, Powell was directly asked if either DC Studios or Marvel Studios had contacted him about potentially taking on a superhero role. As of right now, Powell has yet to get a call from either studio, but is more than game to join the comic book movie genre down the line, sharing the following:

You know I’ve never gotten a call from DC or Marvel. But I’m a fan of everything they do. I just saw ‘Deadpool [& Wolverine’]. I freaking had a blast. I think what Shawn [Levy] and Ryan [Reynolds] did with that is like extraordinary and just such a fun flavor for audiences. And I cheer for them. And I love what [they do]. I think James Gunn, Peter Safran, and what they’re doing at DC— I think it’s going to be really, really good for that business. So, it’s like, yeah, I cheer them all on. I’m a big fan of the movies.

As Gunn’s DC Universe is coming up, many fans have been proposing Powell for various roles in the new continuity. Powell has continuously been suggested to play the titular lead in the Booster Gold series, while fans have also expressed wanting to see him as Hal Jordan in HBO’s Lanterns TV show, which will also feature John Stewart as the co-lead. Since the Lantern series is the one out of these two shows that have actually been greenlit, casting for Hal is likely going to be taking place this fall.

However, as far as what roles Powell has expressed directly that he wants to play, the Twisters star has thrown his name in the hat for playing the DC Universe’s Batman. In an interview with GQ UK, Powell stated that he “was always a Batman guy. I would have a wild take on Batman.” Powell’s vision for his take on Batman “would not be like a Matt Reeves tone – it’d probably be closer to Keaton.”

One of the most popular Marvel characters Powell has been proposed to play is Scott Summers, a.k.a. Cyclops in the MCU’s X-Men reboot that is currently in the works. With Powell being in his 30s, which is likely the age range the MCU will aim for with Cyclops in the MCU, he would be a great fit. But for now, time will tell if Powell ever takes part in the DC Universe or the MCU.
