The DCU’s Sinestro has arrived. In the upcoming series Lanterns, the DC supervillain will be played by Ulrich Thomsen.
Per Deadline, it’s been reported that Ulrich Thompsen has taken on the role of the live-action Sinestro in Lanterns, a DCU series that’s in development at HBO. The Sinestro character is a former Green Lantern gone rogue, and in the comics, he served as a mentor to Hal Jordan, played by Kyle Chandler in the TV series. Aaron Pierre is also starring as the John Stewart Green Lantern, picking up as John and Hal investigate a murder mystery. The serise also stars Kelly Macdonald as Sheriff Kerry, Garret Dillahunt as William Macon, and Poorna Jagannathan as Zoe.

Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps have fought in a few galactic wars against DC’s most powerful cosmic threats, and even against each other.
“I mean, I would say I’m over the moon but that’s not far enough for a Lantern. I guess I’m over Oa? That’s pretty far,” Lanterns writer Tom King previously told ComicBookMovie.com about the show’s leads. “You should see these two together. They have amazing chemistry and I couldn’t be more excited. I’m not allowed to say anything except that I can say it’s awesome!“

Thompsen is known for playing the role of Kai Proctor in the acclaimed TV show Banshee. His other recognizable TV roles include NBC’s The Blacklist, HBO’s The Young Pope, and Starz’ Counterpart. He recently appeared in the Scandinavian series Trom, and he will next have a role in the thriller movie Run from director Uwe Boll.
Sinestro has made appearances in many animated DC movies, TV shows, and video games. He was most recently voiced by Andy Daly in Kite Man: Hell Yeah!, the Harley Quinn spinoff series. Previously, Mark Strong played a live-action version of Sinestro opposite Ryan Reynolds in the 2011 film Green Lantern. Created by John Broome and Gil Kane, Sinestro ohas been around since first appearing in Green Lantern (vol. 2) No. 7 in 1961.
Lanterns is one of several TV shows set in the DCU. Following the recent animated series, Creature Commandos, the series is expected to follow the second season of Peacemaker this year. There are also other planned shows in the works focusing on Amanda Waller and Booster Gold, and an animated Blue Beetle projects is in development. They’ll all be set in the same universe as the upcoming DCU films Superman, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and Clayface.
Lanterns doesn’t have a premiere date set.
