With the massive success of Marvel Rivals, it’s no surprise that other big IPs are thinking of making their own hero shooter. One of the interested parties includes DC Studios. Marvel Rivals has become one of the most popular multiplayer games in the world after being released in Dec. 2024.
The hero and villain-filled hero shooter has iconic characters from the Marvel comics using their powers to take over map points. The game is heavily compared to Overwatch 2, but it does seem to have surpassed it with player count and positive reviews. It has clearly inspired other games to also enter the hero shooter genre.

James Gunn Is Considering It
Director of DC Studios James Gunn has recently admitted that he’s watching the success of Marvel Rivals. Would he consider the same style game but with DC characters? Gunn has apparently said yes.
DC is already in talks with NetherRealm about a DC game. This could very likely be a fighting game, seeing as NetherRealm is the studio behind Mortal Kombat and Injustice, a DC-themed fighter. Fans would definitely not complain about Injustice 2. But it seems like Gunn has also been throwing around a second DC game, this one inspired by Marvel Rivals.
Hearing this, gamers have started fantasizing about a darker and more serious version of the hero shooter that brings DC’s new gritty cinematic universe to the PC. Others, however, feel that DC should stop copying Marvel and find its own ideas. Some haters even joked that DC should focus on getting some good movies out first.

Marvel Rivals’ developer NetEase has already made cuts – and the company is showing no signs of slowing down.
Still, a hero shooter wouldn’t be a bad idea. DC has a plethora of good characters to choose from with a wide range of abilities, like Batman, The Flash, Aquaman and Superman. This could be a chance for DC to one-up Marvel, as more gamers start complaining about the repetitiveness of Marvel Rivals’ abilities and character designs.
