Jason Momoa found worldwide fame after portraying the role of Khal Drogo in the iconic HBO series Game of Thrones. The series became a cultural phenomenon and every iconic actor found their career breakthrough with this series.

Despite the fame, the Aquaman actor wasn’t immediately picked up for other Hollywood projects for one very stupid reason. With Khal Drogo being a Dothraki warlord, Momoa had to speak Dothraki (a made-up language in Game of Thrones). This led people to actually believe that Jason Momoa cannot speak English!

Jason Momoa Did Not Find Work After Game of Thrones

Portraying the role of the Dothraki horse lord in Season 1 of Game of Thrones, the character went on to marry a young Daenerys Targaryen. Traveling alongside her through the city of Vaes Dothrak, Khal Drogo eventually kills Daenerys Targaryen’s brother and vows to fight for his wife by crossing the narrow sea.

Being a hunky barbarian with pig’s blood for dinners, the character eventually found his demise from an infected sword wound. Dying just before the season finale of the first season of Game of Thrones, Jason Momoa found himself out of work once more. In an interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the actor talked about his iconic role and the stupid and yet hilarious reason, Hollywood didn’t offer him any more roles after the HBO series!

“Not a lot of people thought I spoke English. You’re not gonna put him [Drogo] in a comedy. You’re not gonna put him in a romantic. You’re pigeon-holed. I met Fred Armisem, and my stepdaughter did ‘Portlandia’. And he was so excited to meet me.”

The actor further continued,

“And then he was like ‘I didn’t even know you spoke English’. It was heartbreaking. I was like ‘That’s why I’m not getting any jobs'”.

But that’s not true after all as Momoa found another iconic role for his career. The actor portrayed the role of Aquaman in Zack Snyder’s DCEU and continued to be a part of James Gunn’s DCU which gave him plenty of fame (and English dialogues) for the people to know.

Despite being an actor who has seen a lot of struggling days, the actor hasn’t let go of his sense of humor. With Emilia Clarke portraying the role of Daenerys Targaryen (the wife of Khal Drogo), their first meeting was quite cute and violent.

During their stay in a hotel in Belfast, it has been reported that when Momoa first saw Emilia Clarke, he ran and tackled her to the floor all the while yelling “WIFEY!”. Momoa found quite the fame by starring in his role of Khal Drogo and Aquaman and was recently seen as the main antagonist of the 2023 movie Fast X. The 2011 series that started it all, Game of Thrones, is available to stream on Max.
