As great as DC Comics’ Absolute line has been, one iconic writer thinks a new series pushes things even further. Fans everywhere have fallen for the ambitious new line and its dramatic overhauls of beloved DC characters. But an iconic comic creator has great faith that one upcoming series is set to win a major award.

Scott Snyder, one of the minds behind DC Comics’ Absolute line and the writer of Absolute Batman, spoke with the Comic Watchers on YouTube. The writer delved into the reception behind the Absolute line and his collaboration with the other creators involved in the current and upcoming books.

Snyder really hyped up the upcoming book, Absolute Martian Manhunter by Deniz Camp and Javier Rodríguez, calling it “really ambitious” with the ideas it brings to the table. Snyder’s faith in Camp and Rodríguez was so great, he even thinks that Absolute Martian Manhunter may wind up winning the Eisner this year.

Absolute Martian Manhunter’s Ideas and Execution are Eisner-Worthy

Scott Snyder Hypes Up the Absolute Universe’s Most Ambitious Book

After the events of the DC All In Special last year, a new world known as the Absolute Universe was created. This alternate Earth is much like the Prime DC Universe, albeit one founded on Darkseid energy that permeated the universe after the New God’s physical body died. As a result, hope is a waning force in this new realm, and turmoil and strife are the guiding principles. There are still heroes such as Superman and Wonder Woman, but they face greater challenges and lack the trappings of their Prime Universe counterparts such as their family bonds and traditional origins.

It’s no surprise that Snyder has such great faith in Absolute Martian Manhunter. Aside from Camp, who has been absolutely crushing it on The Ultimates in this past year, he and Rodríguez are clearly building something special with Absolute Martian Manhunter. Granted, fans have only gotten a taste through small previews, but as far as the Absolute line goes, it looks like something straight out of peak ’90s Vertigo. To be fair, the Absolute line has been very good, but Snyder thinks that Absolute Martian Manhunter pushes the Absolute concept in ways fans aren’t going to see coming.

What Will This Book Do That’s So Different?

Of course, it would make sense for Snyder to hype up a book in a line he’s curating. But he’s working with a lot of amazing talent and something in Absolute Martian Manhunter has clearly stood out to him. Snyder would know from Eisner Awards, having won several himself before. If he’s willing to make such a bold claim, at the very least, fans know that Camp and Rodríguez’s book, at the very least, has a shot at winning such a prestigious industry award.

Maybe Absolute Martian Manhunter will win an Eisner, maybe it won’t. But Scott Snyder, who has poured a lot of time and effort into making this line a success, has great faith in what the book’s creative team has produced. If he thinks that Absolute Martian Manhunter has a genuine chance of winning an Eisner, then DC Comics fans are certainly going to want to keep their eyes peeled.

Absolute Martian Manhunter #1 is available on March 26th from DC Comics.
