Jason Momoa is staying in the DC Universe, but this time in a drastically different role.
Since his 2016 appearance in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” the Iowa native has portrayed Arthur Curry/Aquaman in the films based on the historic DC comics.
He reprised the role in “Justice League” (2017), “Aquaman” (2018), “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” (2021), “The Flash” (2023), “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” and the TV series “Peacemaker” (2022).
But in the new DC Studios, helmed by James Gunn and Peter Safran, Momoa posted to social media Monday saying he would be playing Lobo, a role he has long desired.
“I always wanted to play Lobo, because I’m like ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role,'” Momoa posted to Instagram, recounting an interview from the “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” press tour. “If they ever call me and ask me to play, or ask me to audition, I’m there.”
The post was simply captioned: “They called.”
“Welcome to the DCU, Jason Momoa,,” Gunn wrote on his Instagram page Monday.
“Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” is currently listed as a June 2026 film release. Milly Alcock will star as the titular character Kara Zor-El/Supergirl, the cousin of Superman.
The new slate of films and TV shows from Gunn and Safran, denoted as the DCU, has already started with the HBO Max series “Creature Commandos.”
Next up is the film “Superman,” coming to theaters July 11, 2025.
Who is the DC character Lobo?
Lobo is a weapons expert and “the best bounty hunter in the known universe,” the official DC website states.
He first appeared in Omega Men #3 in 1983, but his listed powers include super strength, invulnerability, super speed, healing factor, alien technology and combat skill.
