James Gunn has already cast some of his favorite actors/friends in his upcoming DC Universe projects, but fans still want to know if the director will re-team with Chris Pratt in the new DCU. Before becoming the new co-president of DC’s film and television department (alongside Peter Safran), Gunn directed one of the most successful trilogies in the MCU. Starring Chris Pratt as Star Lord, the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy turned an obscure comic book team into a billion dollar franchise. The ending of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 teased that Star Lord will return again in the MCU, but fans want Pratt to make the jump to the DC Universe.

Always a presence on social media, James Gunn took the time to answer fans’ questions on Threads about the upcoming slate of DC Universe projects. One fan asked the director if the rumors about Chris Pratt joining the DCU were true. James Gunn didn’t confirm if Pratt is officially joining the DC Universe, or which character/project he has considered the actor for. However, after working on three movies together (and a Holiday Special), Gunn and Pratt have become very good friends, and the director said they talk about Chris Pratt’s DCU potential all the time.

“He’s a close friend. We talk about that all the time.”

The DC Universe hasn’t even begun yet, but fans are already fan-casting their dream roles for future projects. The rebooted cinematic universe technically kicks off later this year with the animated series Creature Commandos. But fans will have to wait until mid-2025 before witnessing the new DCU’s first movie, Superman (directed by James Gunn). The moment James Gunn was announced as the new co-lead of the revamped DC Universe, fans began re-casting the stars of Guardians of the Galaxy as DC Comics characters. For actors like Dave Bautista, the fan-casting was easy, with many settling on the actor playing Bane or Solomon Grundy. However, pinning down which character Chris Pratt could play has been a trickier affair.

Green Lanterns Series May Have Found Its Hal Jordan

The upcoming Lanterns series has apparently offered a titular role to Josh Brolin.

Following the recent rumor that Josh Brolin has been offered the role of Hal Jordan in the Lanterns series, some fans disagreed with the choice, believing that Chris Pratt would be a better fit for the character. Alternative fan castings have imagined Pratt as the Robin Hood-esque hero of Star City, the Green Arrow, a.k.a. Oliver Queen. One of the most popular fan castings sees Chris Pratt play the time-traveling hero Booster Gold — who will be getting his own movie in the DCU. Earlier this year, Pratt addressed the potential of appearing again as Star Lord in the MCU, and joining James Gunn’s DCU. While it is more likely that the actor will reprise his MCU role, Pratt holds out hope for a spot among the new DC roster. He said:

“Well, it probably makes more sense that I would be Star Lord again. But anything is possible, and especially with James over at DC. Maybe there’s something that would be right over there. Maybe both. How about both? Let’s do both. I think it’s 100% both.”
